Sounds like it is about the same amount of police shootings as last year.
keep the people down and those in the enforcement will be the hardest hit. people are also probably losing it due to no job, no money, poor economy, rising prices due to inflation, anger at the .gov, anger at the world, personal issues like divorces due to the economic situation etc etc.
people finally lose it when it becomes too much. it is very sad the cops are getting shot and being the first line of defense.
I think what's even more sad is there are some, right here on this forum, that won't see it that way.Quote:

The Fraternal Order of Police in Camden New Jersey proved without a shadow of a doubt, public union willingness to toss fellow officers to the dogs.
In a 300-1 vote, the union rejected an offer that that would have saved 100 jobs. That offer called for three days a month of unpaid furloughs for patrol officers for six months, then one furlough day in each of the following 12 months.

I've worked for two union entities, one a construction company and one IAFF, in both cases I didn't/wouldn't join. The unions like to claim brotherhood and such, but it sure seemed to me they were purely focused on making more money for those in for the longest already.

This is truly sad and frightening. I think OneGuy67 hit the nail on the head: Police officers are the public face of the government, and when public anger with the government boils over, the police are going to take the brunt of it.
My condolences to the families and friends of those that were lost.
We often confuse increased media coverage with an increase in the actual activity (remember, according to Gallop 75% of the population believes that crime rates are going UP when in fact they are going down and have been steadily falling since the early 70s).
So are more cops being shot? Or are more stories about cops being shot making it on air?
One way to deal with this is to try to cool things off. A no knock entry is dangerous for everybody. An officer has to go in fully pumped up and has a fraction of a second to decide to shoot or not shoot. That is really bad since people aren't perfect and mistakes happen. If these are only given for hostage rescue it will avoid the issue.
One example is high speed chases. Years ago they were quite common. This led to crashes that killed officers and innocent civilians. The rules for this was tightened up and with better radio communication and devices like those strips that shred tires it became much less deadly.
People got outraged because a (relatively) innocent man was shot in a no knock raid. It's like the joke where someone tells his doctor: "It hurts when I do this." The doctor says, "Well don't do that."
