Yes, another computer question.....

OK, my PC has these little ac-powered Logitech speakers with a subwoofer, and the damn things pick up some AM radio station. I can't listen to anything on my PC without some AM bullshit stinking things up, usually it's Rush Damn Limbaugh. These speakers will do this all on their own, I've completely removed the PC from the house and if the speakers are turned on, the Windbag appears. I hate that pompous ass, gives us Conservatives a bad name.

Anybody know how to solve this? Any kind of filter or something I can put somewhere? This has been driving us nuts since we bought this p.o.s.

Seriously, you probably live near a radio-head or a tower and its bleeding into the speakers.
My Cellphone does the same thing.

Sounds like you are close to the transmitter or those speakers are just poorly shielded.

trying a new set would probably be the only solution.

I got a set sitting in the closet i could probably be talked into trading for something... i'll look up the model number and value if your interested. [Beer]

Yep, all electronic devices have to be manufactured to accept any and all interferences....so if you live near a tower, or even on a direct path from a tower, you will get some radiant buzz. Especially from AM channels. Sometimes I can catch 850 KOA just by holding my cell up to my hear.

my nextel phone f's with the tv ant radio in the car and tool box and cb radio.
might try a surge protector inline probably wont help but a cheap thing to check.
your house wiring might be acting as an antenna.

Hmmm, nothing right in my 'hood, but there IS a big f'ing tower about a mile or so away as the crow flies. Maybe Micro Center has something I can put in the AC line.....

The main KOA tower is in Parker. Thats 50,000 watts.

This link has the history of KOA and talks about how they moved the tower to Parker in 1959 from the previous Tower road location.

Like others have said that something is not insulated enough from that signal.

Since no one appears to have answered the question, the signal cable that runs to the speakers is functioning as an antenna. Since the signal it carries is analog, you hear the radio stations.

Two things to try:

* Change the length of the wire, if possible. Antenna work best at certain lengths to pick up certain frequencies. It may help to just double it back on itself, or otherwise change it's configuration.

* Add one of these to each end of the cable: http://www.amazon.com/Ferrite-Core-C.../ref=pd_cp_e_2

Beyond that, it's time to buy some better speakers that are RFI shielded. Generally computer speakers are, but perhaps you just have a cheap pair?
