Me personaly never before or during shooting. Once the guns are cleaned and put away I do like to have a drink or 2 with friends. I think the biggest worry for this deal is people driving home drunk .[Beer]
The problem is in the wording. It is just one more thing for the liberals to point at and oooh ahhh and perpetuate the redneck, whiskey drinkin, gun toting image they try to portray about us. Is it a bad idea, hell no, it even includes transportation so you dont drive home shit faced, I would have done it. Just a bad way for it to be presented.

(whether we agree with the laws or not, the handling of firearms while intoxicated is a crime. that said, marketing them together looks, well, irresponsible. When was the last time that guns and liquor were something you needed so much at the same time that you couldn't make two stops?
This kind of marketing ploy, weather it appeals to our own sensibilities, alienates the opposition further, fueling their desire to suppress our rights. What is a drink worth?)

It is a slippery slope, greased with pure BS. One could argue that guns don't go together with anything. Would there be the same uproar if the coupon was for 2 hours at a shooting range, then 3 free book rentals from the public library? Libraries are supposed to be quite remember?

The combination of guns and books isn't prohibited by law.
Dunno about anyone else, but I never drink(alcohol) before or while I'm handling or carrying a firearm. If I'm going to drink, I don't carry, if I'm going to carry, I don't drink. No matter how little alcohol you have in your system, if there's any when you shoot someone, it's going to be an additional complication.
The article implies whiskey tasting AFTER shooting.
I just think its foolish to associate too things that, if done in the opposite order, would be illegal.
Much like you can drive your car to the bar, but its not a great idea to serve drinks at the dealership
And as you already pointed out yourself, the two aren't happening together; so it is a non-issue. This was made into much bigger of a deal than it should have been. I think the thing that got distorted too was that it's a whiskey TASTING event. Wine/beer/liguor tastings always serve very little alcohol per serving, and usually you're supposed to spit it out. The guy who spoke from The Firing Line made a comment about "getting drunk as possible" and I seriously doubt that would be the case.
Marketing-wise, maybe not the smartest ploy, but I don't see anything wrong with the event.

I know this won't be seen as politicaly correct, but you guys know I don't care about that. When I go to visit my buddies in Oklahoma, we always go to my buddies range at his house and drink beer and shoot.(Lots Of Beer) However, we don't advertise it. I don't see a thing wrong with what these guys are doing, at all. I just know the left winged media and freakazouds will run with it. If they didn't have something to bitch about, they would make up something anyway. That's my take.
