Tomorrow night Slim Cessna's Auto Club has an album release party at the Gothic in Littleton. http://www.gothictheatre.com/show/detail/38416
I saw them as an opening act a couple of years ago and became a fan. They do some of the best live shows I've ever seen. Some rock, some country with the feel of a revival meeting. For $20 you get way more than your money's worth.
I think they're actually doing an in store appearance at Twist & Shout records in Denver at 6PM tonight.
Steve
Been listening to a lot of instrumental post-rock and math-rock stuff lately (easier to listen to while working).
God is an Astronaut
(just got a copy of their discography the other day ... all excellent stuff)
Pelican
(a little heavier than the others)
Don Cabellero
(who frankly have the coolest song names ever)
Oh and The Fu*king Champs
(also heavier and with more of a sense of humor)
She's Looking Bettery by the Minute by the Boxmasters at the moment. Threw them into Slacker.

More then likely not this crowds genre...
3 Bad Jacks
Necromantics
I find the rockabilly/psycho-billy/psycho-bluegrass stuff is infinitely more enjoyable live than it is on CD/MP3.
In a little club full of people enjoying it (and a few adult beverages) its just tremendously fun ... in the car in traffic or on my media box in the office it gets old fast.
Startin' the morning off right.
If anybody makes it to Slim Cessna's Auto Club show tonight I'll be the old geezer in the black Rockmount shirt with red roses and white skulls.
Steve
It was a great show. They are a live band and they had the place nuts.
There was an opening act, Michael Dean Damron, kind of country folk who had a great song about the Westboro Baptist Church. Those cockroaches have been discussed in this forum. It consisted of wishes for deeply obscene, painful & humiliating things to be done to them. I totally agreed with the sentiments.
Steve
I find the concerts infinitely more enjoyable then most concerts. Strangely enough the people just seem to be more "classy". We essentially on a dare went and saw GWAR, the people there all smoked inside (tobacco and otherwise), infringed as much as possibly on your personal space, and started fights left and right. With "rockabilly/psycho-billy/psycho-bluegrass" the crowd is mellow unless in the pit and if the pit gets to wild a bunch of the big guys walk in the middle and slow it down. Amazing how this effects the experience.
Well if you ever decide to partake again let me know we might be at the same one and I will buy you a beer. [Beer]
Good to see a fellow gunnitor came back to co-ar15... got a Mosin yet?
If you like rockabilly, you may enjoy another Reverend, that's Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band from my home state:

The Rev Peyton is pretty amazing in concert. He gets a lot out of an acoustic guitar, washbboard & $5 drum set. I don't see Colorado on his current schedule but he is well worth checking out. When he come to Denver he usually plays the Larimer Lounge or the Bluebird.
Steve
Welp, here is a third Reverend for your enjoyment.
:D

ETA: BOOM!!!! Got it up within a minute! [Weight]
One of my all time favorite bands.
Wovenhand has more than filled the void of 16 Horsepower. I caught them in January. I do go to a lot of concerts. Live music is great, especially offbeat bands that don't hoover the wallet.
Today my wife & I went to see a free concert of the lead vocalists of the Hollyfelds. Check them out if you can handle alt-country. Their vocals are wonderful and they're good to look at. Local and damned good.
Last night I went to see the Drive by Truckers since the Heartless Bastards were opening. The Bastards were great. I really didn't get the Truckers. They didn't gell for me. I just saw influences. Southern rock bands, John Hiatt and others. I might have liked them more if I was stoned. They seem a stoner band. The whole audience was smoking and my clothes smell like pot. I put away those childish things long ago. Venues probably don't like me. I buy at most a bottle of water.
Steve
I have some Wovenhand and have seen them live. Still like 16hp better, especially the early stuff.
Go see Halden Wofford and the Hi-beams if ya get a chance.
This is a Sunday morning ritual.

Heading to see Volbeat tonight at the Gothic!
While I've gotten out of metal, this comes out today and I'm DAMN excited!
Gotta love Saturday mornings.
My favorite 8 track tape of all time.
For those who care, 16hp put out a dvd at the Rockpalast
Who was asking about Franky?

Hmmm, I thought there was enough hip hop in the first post. [Shy]:D
