So-called "birthers" contend since the last presidential election that Obama is ineligible to hold the nation's highest elected office because, they argue, he was actually born in Kenya, his father's homeland. The Constitution said a person must be a "natural-born citizen" to be eligible for the presidency.

Hawaii officials have repeatedly confirmed Obama's citizenship, and his Hawaiian birth certificates have been made public. Even though the courts have rebuffed lawsuits challenging Obama's eligibility, the issue hasn't gone away.

"It's a fringe issue in my view, and it's going to cause people to look again at Arizona and say what's all this craziness going on there," said Democratic Rep. Daniel Patterson of Tucson, an opponent of the bill.

The Arizona proposal would require political parties and presidential candidates to hand in affidavits stating a candidate's citizenship and age and to provide the candidate's birth certificate and a sworn statement saying where the candidate has lived for 14 years.

If candidates don't have a copy of their birth certificates, they could meet the requirement by providing baptismal or circumcision certificates, hospital birth records and other documents.

If it can't be determined whether candidates who provided documents in place of their birth certificates are eligible to appear on the ballot, the secretary of state would be able to set up a committee to help determine whether the requirements have been met.

The names of candidates can be kept off the ballot if the secretary of state doesn't believe the candidates met the citizenship requirement.

Am sure he has one doctored up for him because the .gov does not want to have this slap back in there face. He can get all the faked documents he wants, At my last job some of the employees would get fake papers all the time, for opening bank accounts, SS, Heath care. And the bosses did not care.

I don't get wrapped around the axle about it, but there's still a lingering doubt... if he satisfies the AZ Secretary of State (a republican), that'll go a long way to end the controversy...

I wish the issue would go away, either because he proves it, or because he is booted out of office for faking the documentation...

It is amazing what the general public can fake. When I was in the auto industry the ammount of fake items illegals would bring in to try to do a car deal was amazing. I saw fake licenses, bank statements linked to fake check books that they would try to make down payments with, fake titles, SSN's, the list goes on...

Okay, so if its easy to fake documents and even some people without the financial backing of a president can fake stuff, what's it matter? He was elected, find fault with him otherwise. Latching on to this when he's spending us down a hole, getting us into another war, and refusing to tax the rich are real reasons to be pissed off.

While this AZ bill will take baptismal or circumcision certificates as proof, getting caught up in the language of "birth certificate" and "certificate of live birth" is pointless.

The whole thing is wasted time and effort, imho, and just an angle the media uses to say "Look at the right, they're so crazy."

Depending on who you listen to, the bill for the taxpayers is around $2 million dollars so far.

I personally don't care too much about the birth certificate, but I am very interested in the college transcripts. He admits he was a 'B' student at Occidental College. That being said, how did he get into Harvard Law School, a school that only takes the top 1% of college graduates? Is there something on those transcripts, like being a foreign student from Indonesia, that helped him gain acceptance? How about paying for all these schools? Student loans or grants? Those are the questions I would like to have answered.

He probably got into Harvard Law School because of affirmative action. And he graduated from Harvard Magna Cum Laude, so that is pretty impressive.

There have been multiple lawsuits from people who want him to release his documents and he has AG office lawyers, who fight the process in courts all over the nation. He initially did this on his own dime while a candidate and now, he has government lawyers doing it.

Affirmative Action is one thing; you still need to be in the top 1% of your class to get in. Yes, he graduated at the top of his law school class, but he certainly wasn't anywhere near that at his undergraduate.

i saw on newsmax that trump stated that obama's grandmother said he was born in kenya! on rush's show i heard a while back that obama applied for financial aid as a non US citizen. not that those two things are definitive proof, but add that to the refusal to produce documentation and it really makes you wonder.

As I said in that other thread, I really dislike these non-gun political threads on this forum. But I definitely learned some new stuff from your post assuming its accurate. And on the topic at hand, I still think its a waste of time for the baptism/circumcision certificate parts.
