As a computer programmer, this shit pisses me off. There is zero excuse for computer voting to be allowed to be faulty, intentionally or unintentionally.
There are simple and obvious way that all voting machines can and should be audited.
Every voting machine should have a receipt printer, and when you're done voting two different receipts are printed, one stays behind glass, lets you confirm that your choices are shown on that paper, and that drops into a lock box. The other is a duplicate and goes in your pocket. Presto, an "out of band" audit trail.
All the source code should be legally required to be Open Source. I want to be able to audit that code myself. The hardware the machines run on should be open standards off the shelf hardware, and must be encased so that it can only be accessed with a strong key.
If we can have millions of ATM machines world wide, that count dollars with no problems all day long, it makes me believe that the way government and industry have worked to make machines vulnerable is the result of malfeasance, not incompetence.

who would've thunk it!
Say it ain't so, Joe. Say it ain't so.
go back to paper voting
There ... fixed it for you.
No reason not to allow paper ballots to be scanned to facilitate quicker counting, but voting NEEDS to have a paper trail (and I think we should do away with mail in ballots as well, except for people that are going to be out of the area on election day ... just too much room for cheating or plain old error).
Guess we know how Obama will win re-election huh
What do you mean they are rigged? I thought they were all fair and stuff. [ROFL1]
