Carry it? But its not a .45! How will it ever be effective?!
In all seriousness, avoid .22LR for carry purposes. Not because of ballistics reasons, more than a few people have died with .22" holes in them. One thing: reliability.
First off, I've had more FTF's, FTE's, stovepipes, etc. with .22LR than with any other cartridge, in multiple guns. I wouldn't trust one for carry purposes just for that reason. Secondly, they generally like to be run pretty wet, and its a simple fact of life that lube attracts debris... and I'm sure you know what can happen when there's lots of crap in your action. Also, being as its a rimmed cartridge, it's more prone to failure from being bumped around excessively. If the rounds are exposed to lots of jostling around (running, jumping, being bumped into, and just daily life), there's a risk that the priming compound in the rim can mix with the powder and render the round inert.
Now about the ammo itself, I've heard good things about it. I've also heard that it doesn't feed reliably in some guns for some reason (there's a reason, I just don't recall what it is at the moment). If it runs in your gun OK, I see no reason not to bring a box to the range.
Those are all good points above but ballistics are a valid reason not to use it in a carry gun. The utter lack of stopping power isn't good and shooting to wound (which is likely to happen) is just pretty messed up. The extra punch the stingers get you out of the barrel would probably just increase the chance of it zipping right through what you're shooting at.
Not for carry I ment to say when I leave the range and have it on me I always keep 10 to go back with me. I thought about it but the rimfire reliability thing is what I cant get past. Just to use as a plinking round cause it seems like it has more power it is more fun to shoot, but I think it has been the cause of the death of my pt22 and my chiappa 1911-22, they have both been fixed but that round just seems like it has alot more power than a normal 22 round. The one that I was going to carry was the PMR30 I figured the 22 mag round would be able to do the job.Quote:

Also, I doubt with the very high velocity and the very thin copper jacket that a stinger hollow point has ever not capsized and expanded in a normal target like a rabbit, etc. Most 22 hollow points have such thin jackets that they sometimes mushroom to the point of enveloping the entire base in the expansion process; they can mushroom into a blob of lead and copper.
That explains alot I thought it was just me when I was getting better shots with federal bulk ammo and the winchester bulk, also alot of the time they do not like to load. Thanks.Quote:

22's are very deadly becuase they bounce around alot after hitting the body, but they are not take down power for self defence.
I know my uncle was shot with a 22 in his back it made a uturn and came out his back, I have been trying to argue knock down power, everything I have chambered in a 45 I have in a 22 for practice and muscle memory, thats why I shoot 22 that and I get a kick out of shooting them they are cheap and fun.Quote:

Well if its not any good why do Pro-Killers/Assassins us it all the time?
My "zipping through" comment is related to self defense. If someone is charging at you I want as much chance as possible that shooting them will stop them and preferably with one shot. It's not saying that getting shot with .22 can't be deadly but for every story (and they're just that and mostly hunting related) of one tearing something's insides apart there is one of it bouncing off a piece of bone and leaving nothing but a small flesh wound. Mostly it's somewhere in between.
I believe that the assassins in question also used them at point blank. Hinckley managed to not kill anyone with six shots from 15 feet way despite hitting someone in the head and using crazy explosive ammo.
That is why the .22 is so dangerous they can bounce around inside as well, But for stopping power I will stick with my .45Quote:

gsg 1911 says it has a 5inch barrel, you are good to good with stingers in that but 5inch barrel try some CCI Velocitor 40gr hp 1435fps they should be some harder hitting 22lr ammo good for self defense.
I have been shooting 22's for 31 years now and I know what they can do.
as long as your not at point blank range they will do you good.
