Need to vent, A few thing eating at me today.

So I can't get an over easy or over medium egg at the Chow Hall on Carson, but you can buy sushi at the Commissary?

I saw a B17 Flying over head today, Why can't I ride in one?

While at the commissary De ja vu was handing out free passes (discreetly). If you're trying to get me into a Alcohol free strip club, you might need to send your "A" team, not the janitors.

EDIT: The word "Minty" when describing your gun. Minty is for tea, jelly, ice cream, and gum. Not Awesomeness of guns.

Do you know what the place is called?

In December of 2004, I had my right leg amputated because of a life-threatening infection. While I was in the hospital rehab, I rehabed with a true gentleman. He was a retired Lt. Col who joined the Army Air Corps when the USA entered WWII. He flew mostly bombers with his favorite being the B-17. He said the first time he sat in the pilot's seat he was in total ahhh. He had never seen anything so big. He couldn't see the wing tips!
He was a fascinating man, and we talked for hours. While we were there, he had a birthday, and there was a group of retired military pilots that came down from Cheyenne for it. I don't remember the name of the "Club," but they were a bunch of fun-lovin' guys. Maybe some of you Air Force gents would know the name of this "Club."
We shared the same first names(David), but he was from Laramie, and he had a heart attack. Poudre Valley Hospital, in Fort Collins, owns several houses just south of the main campus that they let family members stay in if they're from out-of-town, and the patient is in for awhile. David's wife and daughter(from TX) stayed in one of those houses, so they were at the hospital a lot, and we became good friends. My wife works at the hospital, and she dealt with them professionally. Anyway, we stayed in-touch(sort of) until David's death about a new ago. He was a great man who flew bombers from WWII-post Viet Nam. He was proud of what he had done, and he had a right to be! Even in the hospital, he had his leather flight jacket with his wings pinned on it laying across his lap when he was on free-time. I will never forget him, and he has forever changed my life.

The Liberty Belle Crashed last month and is forever gone. Very sad day in American History.

Funny you should mention B-17.

I finally got around to framing my birthday present. A Higher Call by John Shaw. I have framed a bunch of prints myself these past few years, but this one is the best so far. The P-40 is a close second.

A bunch of us from the squadron are going up on the B-17 later this week or maybe this weekend. It aint cheap, but worth every penny.

Paladin, that's an awesome story and I'm glad you had the opportunity to meet the man.

Hoser, a lot of people talk down about the P-40 Warhawk because they try to compare them to the later fighters of the war like the P-51 or the Corsair. Totally unfair. There are a lot of Japanese pilots that would tell the P-40 nay-sayers that it was a pretty good fighter for it's time...if they had survived their P-40 encounters, that is.

I have a couple of WWII planes I'm really proud of. I have a model P-51 signed by Yeager, I have a model of the Memphis Belle signed by Robert Morgan (he passed away a couple of years ago), a very nice original oil of one of the Tuskegee P-51s and a print of an ME-109 signed by a German general (and fighter ace) who's name slips my mind right now.

Pueblo has a pretty nice aircraft museum, and they occasionally feature open cockpit days where you can go inside the aircraft.

Sorry your day sucked, we all have em. Your mention of the B-17 compelled me to post that my Granddad in law whom we buried at Crown Hill with a military style service this week was a turret gunner in a B-17 bomber. I cannot imagine a job with a greater butt pucker ratio. He was a great man and fought like hell to the end (toughest S.O.B. i've ever met). Anyway thanks to all those tough bastards who gave us what we have and expect nothing in return..........oh yeah "Minty" sounds kind of fruity to me too.

The plane I saw today was $425 per-person, and tax deductible as it technically a donation. This was a reunion for some 381st Bomber WWII vets hence the veteran photo shoot.

I pulled the Active Duty card and me an one of my soldiers and my wife and kid got to get a mini tour of the B17. Now I really want to fly in one. An Apparently there are only 12 that fly today and 47 hull left. So when I win the lottery and after I buy consecutive serial numbers of every M1 Garand and M1 Carbine every made, I'm going to buy a B17.

No, now they call it Dignity or Olinger.......I still call it Crown Hill. It's at Wadsworth and 29th in Wheat Ridge CO.
