Not sure about the rifle, it is a commercial basically for DD, looks good. I'm pretty damned impressed with the aimpoint though!

Yep. Pretty impressed with the Aimpoint as well as the mount for it. The DD rear sight never snapped off the rail either.
Sorry... If an Aimpoint can't hold zero after being dropped out of a helicopter, I don't want one.
That was a pretty cool vid!
So which do i buy next.....Aimpoint or Southern Thunder??

I'm curious how many other brands wouldn't survive their tests.
I gotta wonder too ... I expect most AR brands would survive just as well.
I also didn't like the water and dirt tests because they taped the barrel ... do our troops routinely tape their muzzles? No, I don't think so.
Toss it in the water for a couple hours, do a quick field strip to make sure there's no water in the gas tube or barrel and THEN fire it (since that's what would REALLY happen in the field). I still expect it would work just fine, the AR system isn't all that complicated.
The big kudos go to Aimpoint ... I doubt my ACOG would survive as much as that lil Aimpoint did.
Same thought here, it would be interesting to take a home budget build like mine (del-ton/spikes) and see how it does. Probably about the same. The one idiot even sticks his finger in the muzzle after the helo drop.
as for the aimpoint, I really dont think my primary arms would have made it past about the first test!
Looks like my next optic is going to be an Aimpoint. The rifle test didn't surprise me much but damn, that Aimpoint took a horrific beating and was solid until the helicopter dropped. I'm beyond impressed.
I saw that on Tactv! Both the ar and the aimpoint took a heavy beating, but the aimpoint was the most impressive part! Now I understand why they are so expensive!
pretty intense; btw im pretty sure that is a T1 aimpoint - awesome little sucker. night vision compatiable as well.
I just chuck mine down the driveway and call it good

Really, simulate what might happen in a "real world scenario"? I wouldn't expect any of those things to happen in a real world scenario (war/military usage perhaps).
cheers,
