I think so, especially if they're causing damage or harassing your animals or family. Best to ask the sheriff or animal control folks, or just practice the "shoot, shovel and shut up" policy.
That is the best policy, already have some holes dug. I talked to AC and they told me to catch them and bring them in. Thank you
Oh sure, YOU catch 'em so THEY don't get bit! Oh, and "they don't have the resources" either, I bet. Fawk a buncha that, if there's no neighbors or houses nearby, just shoot the bastards if they need shootin'.
I love dogs, so I'd have to see if any were adoption-worthy first, especially any Beagles, but that's just me. And cat's "the other white meat", so they say.
What kind of dogs are they? Can you tell
A couple of them look like really big coyotes. I called the CDOW and they said that "unofficially" wolves have been coming up from NM. I really couldn't be breed specific, they do not look like pets though.
Need help? I can bring a truckful of assorted .30 cal. rifles!
What part of the state you in
West of Trannydad off highway 12 in the mountains.
shoot em. they were harrassing your wildlife or dogs or kids or you and tried to attack you. bury them and if anyone asks tell them one story and that is the end of it.
I almost had to shoot a dog in our neighborhood the other day. medium sized all white dog, owners left it unleashed and unattended in the garage. they were in the back yard. it came at me, then my little dog, I was reaching in my pocket for my gun when it jumped again and I kicked it in the face and it bolted back to the garage. damn near the last thing that dog ever did.
Better make sure they dont have owners. I would be hard pressed to shoot a doggy. Even if it were swimming in my pond or chasing cattle. If you spare them, I'll send you some "bird bombs" to scare them with a 12g. Those will do the trick everytime.
My labs used to get loose and swim in the neighbors pond and chase his ducks. He would've died a mysterious death if he shot my dogs for it...
Dogs that are depredating your livestock (chicken, cattle, goats, etc, etc) can be handled on YOUR property with no issues and fully legally.
no livestock, you got a problem.
get some chickens, solve the problem.
If they are I would be suprised. But i've lost 8 chickens,3 geese, 4 ducks,2 goats and 2 cats. I wouldn't shoot a Lab, or anything that looked like a pet. The only thing is there not that scared of people. I was pulling up to the house saw one started to get out of the car to shoot it and it didn't even run. Another car was coming so I didn't want to shoot from the road, and all my kids were in the car. These look like 60-80lb Coyotes, some are a little darker.
I even saw a hollowed out cow off the road a little while ago.
Probably is a small southern wolf. If you don't take care of them quick they reproduce like rabbits don't bark the same language as other dogs and will suck social security dry.
I'd be testing out different carry loads on their asses.
Going hunting in Oct and thats good practice[Beer]
DOW told me when we had one of our dogs off leash this: A dog off leash in the state, national parks or forest are considered wild and will be shot. Check with them and get a name, date and time to CYA.
As for cats they are considered "wild" or "feral" since they are not leashed animals and cannot be disposed of through means other than trapping.
Now a dog of any stature that appears to be menacing children or other humans would be considered wild and dealt with as seen fit at the time of contact. YMMV
I agree that you've lost enough already. Plus with your little ones and these animals not being afraid of people, its really only a matter of time until something REALLY bad happens. You've got some little, little ones too. I would take care of these ASAP.
Don't know how much food is around for these guys, other than your livestock, but as soon as they start to get hungry, they get even bolder. We've had similar things happen in Wyoming when I grew up on the ranch. The sooner you get rid of these the better.
Saw a pair of what looked like GIANT coyotes or wolves down by Westcliff a couple years ago. Same thing, had to have been 80lbs or so. Stood 10 feet in front of my truck and didn't move until I opened the door (I was going to shoot them :)) They looked more like wolves but I didn't think we had any in Colorado so I thought I'd be safe shooting them...sadly they ran before I could get a shot off...
