BIG -1 for "The UPS Store"

So I went to the UPS Store @ 120th and Colorado to ship out a stock back to the manufacturer. I needed a box for it and the twit behind the counter asks:
"Is that a firearm"
"No-it is a chunk of plastic"
"Does it go to a firearm"
"It could if you put an action in it"
"We can't ship it, I can sell you the box and packing material but you will have to go to the hub @ 53rd and Dahlia to ship it."
??? WTF ???
Apparently "The UPS Store" changed its policy and will not even ship firearm related components. I asked the twit what if it was a scope that I was shipping. His reply: "Well if it can go to a firearm regardless of what it is we can't ship it."
I asked him what if I need to ship a box of screws-same answer-if it can go on a firearm they won't ship it.
I happen to know the owner of this branch (wife used to manage the UPS store that was @ 120th @ Washington) and I was able to verify with him.
True fact, "The UPS Store" chain will not ship ANY firearm related items.
I went to "Mailbox Express" who deals with FedEx @ 104th and Colorado and no problem, they will even ship firearms from individuals. Ken and Maria own the place-good people and really easy to work with. +1 for these folks.

Guess who will be seeing my shipping business?

Big -1 for UPS in any way, shape or form.

UPS is anti-gun. I never use UPS. Always use Fedex.

FYI- I ship UPS daily. Prices for forum members are my actual cost(way below UPS' online rates) +$2 per box. I ain't gonna ask what's in it, as long as it's legal. UPS Corporate could give a rat's ass if it's "firearm related", this is bullsh!t made up(probably on the spot) by the brain donor you were dealing with.

That's good to know. Last time I shipped from a UPS store I shipped 500 rounds of ammo but I wrote down the description as brass because they didn't know if I could ship ammo. [Tooth]

I have been switching from UPS whenever I can. I wish FED Ex would get their prices closer to UPS though.

The UPS Store are all independently owned, and just a franchise that uses the UPS name.

I shipped what was obviously a gun case at the local store, and the gal behind the counter gladly helped me pack and ship it.

I have shipped two rifles with the UPS store on Hampton and Logan. I bring a copy of the FFL just to show them the address matches the FFL. They have no problem and never asked for this, I just do it. The never interagated me on what I was shipping. Once I was sending out a stripped rifle for some work and insured it. I called it a "barreled receiver".

I tried to ship at a different one in Lakewood and they told me the same thing about going to the main hub.

I had a mixed experience.

I had to ship an M1A to SA to have it checked out. I had some fucker at a local FedEx store gloat that he wouldn't ship guns even though FedEx allows it. He started to go off so I hung up on the bastard.

Then I went to the UPS store and got it boxed up, they were helpful and weren't scared of a gun in it's case. Afterward I went to the other FedEX store and shipped it since UPS wouldn't ship it even though they wanted too.

I don't like UPS because of 2 things. 1st they are union, 2nd they cost more then FedEx

Resurrecting this thread: I'm visiting folks in CA and want to ship my own long guns to my address in Colorado. I've already disassembled the weapons but haven't sealed the blank box.

Who should I use? USPS, UPS, FedEx? First Priority: not have them be lost or stolen. I think I'm going to insure them for what they're worth to me, which will require a declaration of the contents. Second priority: not getting raped by shipping cost.

I just seal the box before they're able to see it? Then say I need to confirm receipt of this package.

Pro tip: If you don't have the box. Buy the box. Drop it off at a UPS Hub. There's one in Longmont, Greeley, Fort Collins. That's just NoCo. I'm sure there are plenty south of there. They don't ask questions and just ship the box.

I get packages all the time from UPS with guns in em..... I also ship the same. Did you call him a twitt by chance?

Just wish they would get some winter driving training for their big rig drivers. Seems like when I travel regional(less than 500 miles) and deal with travel delays due to wrecks, a fedex truck is @ the front of the melee.[Bang]

IF they are you own personal weapons, check them in at the airport or bring them back in your vehicle. Checking a firearm in at the airport has been easier than dealing with UPEX.

Honestly, my best experiences with shipping firearms (when I had my shop) was with USPS. Neither UPS nor FedEx can touch the USPS flat-rate (usually 2 day service anywhere in the country) for $10.95 or thereabouts. For other carriers, my experience puts UPS Ground head and shoulders above FedEx Ground. I'd rather deliver a package myself than use FedEx Ground. FedEx Express has always served me well.

I like FedEx because of Fred Smith. Good guy who built a great company. He is a Marine, Honorably Discharged as a Captain and has a Silver Star, Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts. While at Yale his professor gave him a C on a paper that would become the foundation of FedEx.

Fuck ups. Tried to ship an upper to a member on here, and the told me the don't ship firearms. I politely replied to the dumb fuck that it was not a firearm just a piece to the puzzle. He then told me that it was a franchised store location and that it was their policy and if I did not like it to leave. Had my four year old call him a liberal douchebag and left

You never tell them anything gun related is in a box, never. Machine or other 'specialty" tool items, then insure the shit out of it.

Strange that UPS is so anti firearms related shipping for individuals, it seems like they have no problems with shipping for all the online firearms related stores and delivering to my door.
From now on we all need to request that our orders are not shipped to us via UPS. Then see how fast UPS changes their two faced policies. If you are members of other forums pass this suggestion on.

That the UPS Store franchises are not supposed to ship actual firearms is a long standing and well known policy.

Try Paypal, very anti-gun, if you state "gun/firearm/AR-15/M16..." in payment note they will took your money and shut down your account. And try ebay, i tried to sell an AR handguard and forgot to mark it as Airsoft/model, ebay fined me about 5 dollar for that and prohibited me from selling for 2 months.
If corporations keep this up we dont need the govt to ban guns, these corporations can just pay unemployed people to do suicide house break-in mission and grab guns.

I actually shipped a gun part not long ago at UPS, I knew someone is gonna bitch if i mention guns, so i put it in a black sheet and shipped as hardware. Fuck their policy.

1. Use FedEx
2. Prepare all your shipping documents online. Online account will get you lower rates than walk-in. I get better rates than UPS e-bay linked account.
3. Box it yourself.
4. Drop it off at the FedEx store. Get a receipt.


Only when I shipped a whole firearm back to the MFR for repair, did I speak to FedEx first. They only (stupidly) required that I remove the firing pin from the weapon. "Yes, it's removed." [Coffee]

Personally, I understand how shipping parts is cheaper USPS, and I'm OK with that as a consumer. However, I've heard tell too many horror stories of long guns and gun parts gone missing in USPS declared gun shipments. I suppose in the end, it's the shipper's problem, but nonetheless, I don't particularly like it when someone ships a gun to me (to my FFL) via USPS.

NOTE: My post is not intended to address shipping firearms to yourself, specific laws or regulations regarding shipping firearms, or imply anything other than what carrier I prefer to use for shipments in general.

If you pack it well to protect it and keep it from moving or busting out, then seal the box and have it ready to ship, I don't see the problem? You're just bringing in a box to ship. Could be old car parts, could be Xmas cookies, who needs to know? All they need to know is where to deliver it to.

But I think Jim's right about just bringing your long guns back home by either checking them on the plane or driving them home. Either is legal, I've seen lots of gun cases being checked in at airports.

I had that happen once at a Fedex/Kinkos. I told them it was for a paintball gun and he let me pack and ship it there.

I don't know about UPS not shipping gun parts. The guy behind the counter is just what you said a Twit! I always use UPS mainly because I use them daily at work and can ship free. Never had an issue with them. I know you can even ship ammo if you write ORM-D "small cartridges" on the box. FedEx can kiss my ass! Their communication sucks, always finding reasons to NOT pickup, they are shitty to their employees, they are always a day behind UPS and 1 out of 4 orders from them get screwed up because they try to deliver to a home when it's actually a business and come at 7pm when places close at 5pm.

This. The last time we shipped a long gun we called it a "swingarm". I've also shipped long guns via FedEx, no problem even when I told them what I was shipping.

I've used the one on Hamden too. They didn't care that it was a complete upper, but told me to label it as "hardware" for the insurance.

The problem I see with mislabeled lost goods is that when it comes time to get reimbursed, they're going to want a receipt, picture, documentation, etc etc to back up your claim. Then you're into a whole song and dance keeping up a charade about a muffler or machine parts. I'd imagine that if this falls apart, they will deny your insurance claim in a heartbeat for lying about the contents. Call me a sissy but its just not something I want to take a chance with for 3 of my firearms.

Im going to take the advice of Jim and get them on the plane (probably have to buy a case). Thanks all for the advice!
