Hamburger meat mixed with a little ethylene glycol? Might make them stop barking. Just a guess.
What an terrible death. If you saw an animal die from antifreeze you wouldn't recommend it.
A knife is much more humane if you must kill quietly.
Online you can find sonic devices that respond to barking. They are above our hearing range. If the dog barks it responds. Dog doesn't bark, it doesn't make noise.
Pretty fast the dog gets the idea. Most are directional.
Go to petsmart, petco, etc. They sell electronic devices (anywhere from $100 - $500) that you can plug it in on your back patio and it will emit a ultrasonic sound that is uncomfortable to a dogs hearing. When the dog barks, it transmits. Dog soon learns to shut up.
Or if you have the time you can always do the water bottle and vinegar route. Or (I do NOT recommend, I'd be pissed if someone was mistreating my dog even if the dog was a nuisance) the low velocity BB gun. Or be a good neighbor and talk to the guy and see if y'all can't work something out. Volunteer your time to help train the dog.
I bought a device from Petsmart that was supposed to do the high freq sound whenever the neighbors dog barked. It didn't work but I was able to return it to the store for a refund. If you try that route make sure you can return the item if it's not working. I guess it didn't work in my case due to the fence. Or offer to buy a bark collar for the dog.
We had several issues with some neighbor dogs and finally one neighbor confronted them about the barking. It was about the 3rd time someone had confronted them but it finally sunk in and, for the most part, the dogs have been quiet.
If I was in the back yard I usually ended up watering the plants alongside the fence which helped with the barking but only while I was out there.
Depending on your city/county you can also file a complaint with animal control (we did that also)
I for one would F***k up anyone who messed with my dog, I like my dogs more than most of the human race (including some of my family). Just got talk to the dude, if that doesn't do the trick call the popo or animal control. Just don't be stupid enough to mis-treat that dog.
Man the fuck up and talk to them? If they don't fix the problem give them a reminder about the barking laws. Still no resolution call the city or cops?
The dogs doesn't know better, it's an issue with the owner.
I had this happen and my neighbor didn't know it was an issue. Apparently some other neighbors called the HOA on her as well. My concern was with the noise when our son was born.
Its frustrating and the dog is not harming anyone.
I agree that the neighbor is the issue, not the dog, so no need to harm the dog. I have a neighbor that is a total jackass, in that he has at least 3 times let his dog out (a German shepherd), then been so hammered that he passed out, leaving the poor dog outside. The dog, not knowing any better, barks continuously to be let in. The last time jackass did this, we called in a welfare check to the PD, and they proceeded to kick in his front door. No issues since.
Just talk to your neighbour. If he doesn't do anything about it, call animal control...
it isn't the dogs fault. maybe he is tired of hearing humans speak and wants to get back at them.
talk to the owner about it. that is how men handle things.
I totally I agree with this. I have two dogs. Big dogs. 90 pound yellow lab/golden retriever and a 135 pound blood hound. I put them in their dog run(20'x15') daily, and from time to time the squirrels torment the bloodhound. Hey howls and howls etc. I spoke to all my neighbors when I moved in and asked them if the bloodhound ever gets on their nerves to just let me know. 1 year after I moved in I get a written complaint from the animal control people. To sum it up, this was my freebie for him barking, next time is a fine, the time after that time to goto court. Needless to say I was pretty pissed that my neighbors couldn't knock on my door, leave a note - whatever. So now he goes to his dog kennel with his bark collar on.
Moral of the story - face to face non-confrontational is the way to handle in my opinion.
Man thats some bulls*** right there. I can't stand people like that, cowards. If someone came to my door and complained I would most likely apologize, thank the for being a good neighbor for coming to me instead of calling the animal control and invite them in for a beer.
/Agree
go talk to the guy, let him know what your concerns/issues are.
If after you speak with him it happens again, Go to him and offer suggestions for a resolution. (Collar, No bark electronics.)
Then if it happens again, call the City/PD and you can look him in the eye knowing you came to him and he failed.
If a 3 year old is screaming and making a scene in a restaurant, are you going to be annoyed with the kid or the parents?
It ain't the dog's fault, its your neighbor that's the problem.
So if you're going to put ethylene glycol in something, put it in the leftovers in their fridge not in the dog food [Tooth]
Seriously though, just go talk to them. If your roles were reversed how would you want your neighbors to handle it? No need to call HOA/Animal Control or whoever until AFTER you've talked to them and still haven't seen results.
As everyone said, talk to him. I often work nights, and one of my dogs began proclaiming his dissatisfaction (loudly and repetitively) late at night. He'd never done it before, so I had no idea. It bothered my neighbor, so he mentioned it to me. I was really appreciative that he did the right thing. I bought one of the sonic devices mentioned above (about $60 I think), and it worked. (If it hadn't, he would have gotten a collar next, and then an indoor crate.) The neighbor also has permission to turn the hose on my dog if barking for no good reason. Problem solved, no police, no hard feelings.
Had he tried to poison my dogs? Very, very bad and irreversible things would have occurred. That was an asinine suggestion.
Yup, not the dog's fault, it's the moron that owns him/her. Make an ethylene glycol martini for the moron! Just joking!
I attempted to talk to my neighbor 3 times about her barking dog, she spit in my face. I decided if the dog ever got out, it would be toast. May not be the dog's fault, but if the owner gets mad because you tell them to shut their dog, then tough cookies.
I'm calling TROLL BS
Yeah I have the same issue the dogs bark will I try to sleep. I talk to them and they make light of the issue like is no big deal and nothing they can do. Got love being the new guy in the area.
Next step is animal control owner gets ticketed, after the warning.
I appreciate all the input but I wasn't looking to harm the animal, I just thought there might be an idea I hadn't heard of. I got a suggestion from a friend to give the dog something that would give it the screaming shits at 3:00 in the morning. Seeing as they don't have a dog door that seemed like it would be great payback but not necessarily cure the asshole's deafness.
my car is parked just so, that when the neighbors dogs bark in excess, I set off the panic alarm on my car for the same duration the dogs bark. Keeps the neighbor awake. eye for an eye. He's talking about getting rid of the dogs now. Sorry about the car alarm dude, not sure what's up with that, I'll look into it.
unfortunately ,in todays society, you cannot do the right thing and beat the crap out of the neighbor!, buddy of mine used to help his neighbors dog escape at night a few dog at large bailouts forced the guy to keep his dog indoors more
Bwahahahah! I just noticed that this thread is in the "hunting" forums... There's one way to take out a barking dog... lol. [ROFL1]
Throw a 5lb meatloaf over the fence, you'll get a solid 38sec of peace & quiet.
airsoft gun is a easy answer, its classical conditioning; everytime he barks shoot him and eventually he will learn that if he barks he will be shot. It may take a while
Personally if i ever caught anyone trying to poison or shoot my dog with an airsoft I would go to their front door ask them to the front yard and beat the living piss out of them. There is a thing called animal cruelty, this is why we pay our taxes wo we dont have to deal with these escalations. If you've talked with the neighbor with no resolve, follow the proper channels and deal with animal control.
Don't know where you live, cities are a little different...out here, I see a dog in or near our animal pens, first offense is a .177 lead pellet heading his way, second is a 12 gauge load of rock salt, last is SSS. If they are actually chasing or bugging the livestock, it goes to the third automatically... Like I said, different out here than in the city, so take it for what it's worth. Once an animal bugs livestock, they are a nusance and I am 100% within my rights (and the law) to protect my property. A barking dog in the city? My solution isn't for you...
why is this in the hunting forum?
Best cure would be to buy a 6 pack of beer and drink it before bed.
