ok i have narrowed it down to three choices

what do you guys think....im leaning towards the LaRue but my friend keeps trying to talk me into his fal, the m1a makes me nervous because i have heard that they do not hold zero after cleaning and the shorter gas systems can be unreliable
I think Mark Larue is a complete tool. But they put out good stuff.
Of the three, I'd go with the OBR hands down.
I've shot two OBR's, both were fantastic. The M1A I shot was fine, but awkward (for me). I've never been much of a FAL fan but wouldn't mind trying one some day.
OBR all the way.... and I am a total FAL fanatic. The OBRs shoot like a fricking dream.
I had a SOCOM16... weird having a semi-auto 16" barrel without a pistol grip.
I've shot it past 400 yards with no problems. It is on the heavy side too... and is pretty darn reliable. I didn't experience any issues with the thing.
I traded it for a M1A SuperMatch... [Tooth]
That OBR though... Mmmmm... you could swap out from a short barreled upper to a longer barreled upper for different applications... ohh yeeeaaa... that would be pretty cool...
the FAL... I have no comment... Never had a chance to handle one yet.... they do look sweet for 300 to 600 yard shooting...
.. and I do dig the idea of the side folding stock on the FAL [Tooth]
OBR, no question.
Another vote for the OBR! They shoot awesome!
I have a switch barrel OBR in 260/308. Crazy accurate and as reliable as you can get.

Depends on the purpose it will be used for . Of the 3 the OBR is going to be the most accurate , easily MOA or better with good ammo . The shorter M1a's can be finicky and I wouldn't mess with one shorter than 18" , with work and good ammo you can expect 1 - 11/2 MOA . The FAL in my opinion will be the most reliable if you get the rifle length operating system , the 16" guns with the short op rod have had issues in my experience . The FAL's are going to be the hardest to shoot well as the best FAL trigger is still not close to the triggers on the other two with the OBR being the best . Both my FAL's , a full size DSA medium contour gun and Congo para rifle are 1 - 11/2 MOA with good ammo and 2 - 3 MOA with surplus depending on manufacturer .
Precision rifle get the OBR , battle rifle get the FAL .
See I want a battle rifle....but the chances are ill never actually be in one :) I'm thinking ill probably go with the obr.....does anyone have a good deal on them right now???
LaRue is pretty much the only dealer. And the wait time is 6-ish months unless you find a used one.Quote:

$2600 for the OBR is pretty steep in my book.
Before you decide, see if anyone you know has a copy of Magpul's Art of the Precision Rifle. Borrow it, watch it, and then decide.
Short version of the videos: Buy an OBR and put a S&B scope with a Horus reticle on it and you too will be able to shoot dimes at 1800 meters. Really you can just ask Todd Honett.Quote:

I'm a little late to the thread. First, I love M14's. Just be aware that they aren't exactly plug and play with off the shelf .308 ammo. In an effort to get better velocities, most commercial ammo is loaded with fairly slow burning powders. While this gives you lower chamber pressure, the late blooming powder has a much higher port pressure where the gas system starts on the M14. The result is usually a battered or even bent op rod. It might run ok for a while, but it's just a matter of time.

So take it from the guy that tried to kick water uphill over and over creating a new load for my M14 - just do what this reading says or use milsurp 7.62 (or even American Eagle's M14 load) and life will be dandy.

The OBR is the only accurate choice of these three weapons IMHO. The other two are more battle rifles in their accuracy.
