Someone help me out. What is a really good oil to run in an old 80's diesel?
Rotella T 15W40
Castrol 15W40
Any non synthetic 15W-40 will work fine.
Another vote for Rotella.
filter it and add it 50/50 to your fuel...
Mobil delvac 15w40
Rotella is what i run in all the fleet equipment.
Rotella.
Just out of curiosity what are you running? a 6.2 GM? I had the infamous 5.7 Olds diesel DX block in a very clean cutlass. I also ran 15/40 in it. I run 15/40 in my 350 gas truck also, just because its free.
Rotella, it also works great in quads and motorcycles.
rotella.
unless it is a Ford...then you are SOL and I wouldn't even waste my money on oil[LOL]
Another vote for Rotella.
I believe I am heading down the rotella route. Can I pick it up anywhere?
Walmart has Rotella.
And another vote for it. It is all I put in my diesel.
I run Rotella 15-30 in winter, and 15-40 in summer. Only oil I use, and I drive a ford, so I appreciate oil, heh...
Rotella for sure Advance Auto has it on sale for 12.99 right now. About to hit 230k on my cummins and It's been ran on Rotella since 100k.
I use rotella in mine, my 2007 just turned 621,000 miles today and she still purrs like a kitten. I traded in my last truck with just over 750,000 on the clock and she was still running strong.
A little bit bigger then. I assumed it was a light truck. You like to keep them new then.
I'm another fan of Rotella and even run it in my old 86 yamahoppie Venture.
Just make sure when you change it you're wearing gloves ... used oil out of a diesel motor is carcinogenic (much more-so than oil from a gas engine).
What kind of lifters are in it? Modern oils aren't all friendly to flat lifters, though if it's a well-broken-in engine, it's not as critical.
Look for ZDDP on the web.
I run Rotella in my diesel tractor and it seems to be fine, though I haven't seen the internals of the engine, either.
