Next one is June 2 at CRC in Byers.
I am thinking of going with 4 shotgun stages.
Will have about 10 slugs and 10 rounds of buckshot, 75 rounds of birdshot. We'll have some flippers and the windmill.

Please say this isn't a joke! Four stages of all shotgun would be awesome!
Not a Joke at all.
We will be running at least 2 stages that will allow you to compare your times against others who have run the same drills.
The set-ups won't be tough. IF we have enough people that want to run the stages again, we can do one or more of them again for practice.
Set-up at 7:30, hope to shoot by 9:30, $20 (second time free if we get enough).
Round count (required) is 8 slug, 6 buckshot, 68 birdshot.
Will the divisions still be essentially the same: tac ops and limited shotguns since they are the same, open, and heavy metal? Sounds fun to me, but then again, the shotgun is my favorite part of 3 gun!

Remember, 4 stages of shotgun tomorrow...
We ran a small local match today and several standards/drills type stages. We had a pretty good spread of shooters. We had an Open B class pistol shooter shoot the stages with us which gives some semblance of comparison (he put the requisite number of rounds in mags and did reloads at the same places).

Thanks to the willing guinea pigs who showed up for an all shotgun match!
Next MG match is July 7 at CRC.
Open for suggestions on format...
Standard MG (4 3 gun stages) or Two Gun (4 Pistol/Carbine stages) or One gun (5 Carbine only stages)?
2 or 1 gun would be awesome!
I vote for either the full 3 gun stages or at least 2 gun stages. I could use both the rifle and pistol practice!

What do you need to practice on pistol?
Looks like a 2 gun match is in the making...
Not to be the fly in the pudding, but I can get very effective single gun practices and drills right here at my home range. I drive to Byers for comprehensive 3 gun matches. No point in an all pistol match and we already have a monthly tactical rifle match at Pueblo. No draw for me there. A full on shotgun match sounds fun, but running it as standards and practice drill type stuff doesn't offer much appeal for me.
Flys get swatted into oblivion...
It's great that you are so good you don't need practice on the shotgun, but what we did last week was very beneficial for those who wanted to improve their shotgun skillset.
Running a 2 gun match (sans shotgun) has the potential to pull in some pistol shooters who are still scared of the shotgun aspects of 3 Gun.
Not sure if I can make it out or not, but I think it would be interesting to run stages with dramatic changes in distance to the target. For pistol, maybe work some cardboard within 5-10 yards to place an emphasis on speed, then make the shooters transition to 25 or even 50 yard steel. Same for the rifle. Make the shooters shift gears dramatically.
At least I think that would make for some interesting and informative stages. [Twist]
i would be interested in shooting this if it was a pistol/carbine match only as i do not own a tactical or three gun shotgun yet, my issue is there is a high power match that day over on the high power range that i need to shoot what time do you start shooting? most cases it wont work out. however i will swing by once i am done and say hello to a few of you.
As someone who has only shot pistol matches and not carbine/pistol, a 2-gun match would be great to get into multi gunning. Personally I don't really like shotgun.
Swatted to oblivion... Hmmm...
Didn't say I don't practice. Only that I don't need to drive two hours to shoot the drills. I can and frequently do that at my home range. I did last night and the guy I practiced with (from Texas) will most likely be ordering some pin wheels as soon as he gets home (after going from an 11sec weak hand reload to a 6.5sec load two reload in less than 20min).
You asked for oppinions... Sorry if mine is to shoot all three guns.
I just hate flies...
Guess I should have put one of those smilies in there.[ROFL1]
My reason, as a MD, for trying some other formats is exactly what was posted by coop68 and DeusExMachina.
They come on out, get addicted, then they HAVE to give shotgun a whirl.[Beer]
I seem to struggle with steel. Any steel. I do fine on paper (bigger targets and two hits anywhere), but put steel in front of me and I fold like a cheap tent. I think front sight and trigger control are a part of this. I enjoyed the shotgun match and I like the idea of at least a 2 gun match, but I do love shooting all three. I'll be there regardless because I love to shoot![Beer]

Is the next 3Gun Match still on schedule for July 7th? Anywhere I can download a stage print out and round count?
Yes and no.
Round count I am hoping for is about 60 pistol and 80 rifle. I have not drawn out the stages yet. But 4 stages with pistol and rifle on all 4.
YammyMonkey asked for some large distance changes...so be prepared for that on at least one stage. There will be a stage with a lot of pistol steel and probably some Clayoreos at 50 yards.
No shotgun??? Gotta have shotgun as I just got a new semi-auto shotty and would love to break it in at this match.
Okay, here is my final plan.
4 stages with rifle and pistol for the match score. Plan for about 65 rounds of each.
1 stage of all shotgun, birdshot only, 24 rounds, optional fun shoot.
Planning on making this as my first multigun match. What do I need to know as far as first time shooter/safety meeting, and cost?
MarkCO:
Sounds like some great stages and I appreciate the addition of a shotgun stage. Can't wait until the 7th.
MadDog
I'd definitely do this (especially as I am shotgun-less currently) but unfortunately I'm on call that weekend. :(
RobertB:
If things change and you can make the match, you can always use my AR style 12ga. Just bring your on birdshot.

Sounds like the shotgun stage is a side match anyway.
About what distances/targets do you expect for rifle portions? I'm trying to decide whether to bring my midlength with unmagnified red dot, or my big fat magnified Larue and just deal with the forearm cramps.
Nothing past 45 yards for rifle or pistol. They are going to be pretty fast.
I'm planning on attending tomorrow. Still have a few questions;
This going to be my very first 3-gun. I've done IDPA... I've never practiced quick reloading of both my shotgun or my rifle. Is that still cool to participate?
Do we need to bring all our food and water? Meaning is t here facilities for that there or its strictly bring your own?
Just so I have an idea (not in any hurry) but what is the expected duration of the event? I know it depends on the number of participants, but just looking for a rough idea.
I don't have a shell caddy for my shotgun. I'm going to see if I can find one later today...
Like in IDPA can I just drop my rifle mags on the ground or do we have to have a bag to put them in?
Sorry for all the questions. I just want to be somewhat prepared.
See you guys tomorrow at CRC!!!!!!!
Random question, I have a new Saiga 12 I'd like to run in the shotgun bonus stage. I don't have enough magazines (a 10 and a 5) to run the whole thing. Does anyone have a 10 round magazine I could borrow for it?
Otherwise, I'll just bring my 11-87. And if anyone wants to borrow my 11-87 to use, let me know!
I can tell you CRC only has outhouses, no running water. So bring food and water.
Pretty sure no problem dropping magazines.
One thing I was told, if you take a box of shotgun shells and turn them all one direction, you can tape it to yourself for a good free shell caddy. [Tooth]
I plan on being there. If you need to borrow some shot shell caddies you are more than welcome to borrow mine for the shotgun side stage. Magazines can be dropped without penalty. You'll need your own food and water. If you have any questions just ask. Multi-gun shooters, at least in my experience, are an extremely nice and helpful group of guys. It's one of the reasons why I keep with it!
BP
I'll be there, and also bringing the little lady.
Can't wait! Bringing lots of water. Might even go buy myself a bigger cooler tonight.
On a side note I'll also have shell caddies to loan out. I don't even mind lending out the shotgun for anyone wouldn't be able to shoot the extra stage otherwise.
