ok here is where i'm at. my halo gemtec suppressor came loose the first time i tried it, after only one mag. i emailed gemtec for suggestions because it is to hot to handle after one mag. they suggested blue loctite. i put about 2 drops and put it on. now it's stuck on. i have tried a pipe strap wrench and it would just spin the suppressor around so i tried two and the straps slip. any suggestions?
drop a mag thru it to warm it up, then take it off.
Loctites worst enemy is heat. Heat it up and then try to remove it. Use a propane torch and keep the flame off of it just use the heat to evenly heat it up as you do so try to remove it. If it won't budge continue to heat it until it lets loose.
Or you could just do a few mag dumps untill it is nice and hot. :mrgreen:
heat gun. if you do not have access to one. wrap some foil around the coupler area, GENTLY using a propane torch run the flame around the area. blue loctite once warm loosens up real quick.
how tight are you making the halo before shooting? i sprayed some dry lube on threads prior to using. no issues with it coming loose. if anything i need to give it a little more torque when removing
sounds like a good reason for me to run thru a few mags in the morning. i put it on there as tight as i could get it the first time. it was loose after 30rds, like a turn and a half loose. it even jiggled around a little. if i would have gone thru another clip or two i think it would have been a mess.
same thing next time but with two drops of blue loctite.
Dude, seriously, do NOT use loctite on your HALO. That's just dumb.
I crank mine on with hand pressure and it has NEVER come loose.
When it gets stuck, there is an EASY way to remove. Heat up the collar a bit with a propane torch, then unscrew the collar while wearing heat resistant gloves.
This is NOT the same as shooting it to heat it up. That heats the entire assembly from the inside out, so everything is expanding.
When you heat the collar ONLY, only the collar will grow.
it's off. torch trick worked like a charm. that thing was so stuck i screwed off the flash hider. i would not reccomend the use of loctite on a suppressor to anyone. i was told by a friend to do it and thought he was nuts. i didn't try it until suggested by Gemtec in this email.
A small drop of blue Loctite on the threads will help "muddy up" the threads
and help prevent unscrewing but not secure it so that you cannot remove it.

they were right about being able to remove it but the effort was way to much. it took a propane torch, two strap wrenchs, and a heck of alot of swearing. thanks for all your help. i am now on the that is a dumb idea bandwagon.

1. Make sure your flash-hider is properly mounted and will not come loose. Do not use loctite, use either a crush or peel washer, or mount the FH directly to the barrel shoulder using torque only. If you use a washer, make sure the HALO collar does not get caught on it and get crooked.
2. As you screw the HALO into its collar, hold the collar in a fixed position and spin the can into it. I have found this easier. When it is just about to get tight, align the halo "U" channel in a fixed position to help retain zero. For final tightening, turn the collar while holding the can stationary.
I have NEVER had the HALO come loose doing this.

supposedly a can's temp increases approx 8* per round fired. after running 3-4 mags through my suppressor that baby takes forever to cool down. i usually make it the first gun i fire at the range (or elsewhere).
i'm going to invest in some nomex gloves

the heat difference between my halo and my outback is hard to belive. i understand why it is hotter, but wow that thing will peel off your skin in one clip. it take the out back about 5 clips in my sig to get hot and on my 10/22 it never seems to get hot enough not to touch. i guess all the gas is finished burning before it leaves the barrel.
