I'm sure you're right, but I am sending an email if I can find theirs or a phone call if not to the three dems that switched, even though they aren't in my district, thanking them. I imagine I'll be cursing them later for other things. :mrgreen:

Nancy Spence (R) the senator for my area had indicated that something was in the pipe line to advert this in an email to me last week. She noted that we only need 3 Dem's to stop or pass anything in the Senate. She was feeling fairly confident that SB34 wouldn't pass as it was. Now I understand what she was eluding to.

It's good to know that:

1. Rookies still get skooled
2. The Dem's don't have total control
3. That the rest of Colorado isn't gun grabbing fascist like some.. cough..cough.. BOULDER/DENVER .. cough.. cough

So one big one down, about a dozen more to go!

One of the three Democrats who voted for the revamped bill, Bob Hagedorn of Aurora, taught a public administration class that I was in last spring. Hated the class, but liked him in spite of his being a Dem. He always said he was moderate, so apparently he is indeed. I sent him an email to his personal address thanking him for his vote.

I left messages with the three Dems and the two Rep who changed this bill. If I going to call and tell them how I want them to vote, I better thank them when they uphold our rights.

Senate Bill 34, sponsored by State Senator John Morse (D-11), passed the House Judiciary Committee today and is on its way to the House floor for a vote.

If enacted, non-resident concealed carry permits will no longer be honored if the address on the holder’s identification is different than the state where the permit was issued. For example, a Florida permit issued to a non-resident will not be recognized in Colorado. No demonstrated need has been presented to justify SB34, legislation that will potentially threaten reciprocity agreements. This bill will invalidate non-resident permit holders as well as create second-class citizens out of Colorado residents.

Please contact your State Representative TODAY at (303) 866-2904, or if outside of Denver, at (800) 811-7647 and respectfully urge him or her to oppose SB34.

House legislators approved a Senate Democrat measure today barring Colorado residents on using out-of-state concealed carry permits for their self-defense needs.

The bill is now en route to Gov. Bill Ritter for consideration.
Senate Bill 34, by freshman Sen. John Morse, D-Colorado Springs, and House Majority Leader Alice Madden, D-Boulder, restricts Colorado’s recognition of valid out-of-state concealed-carry firearms permits. It passed in the House by a mostly party-line vote of 36-29.

Sen. Greg Brophy, R-Wray, expressed his displeasure of the bill’s outcome in the House.

learning of the House vote on the proposal. “I’m anxious to see if the governor will stand up for the Second Amendment or not.”

During its Senate debate, SB 34 became an immediate, top-priority target of opposition from gun-rights groups led by the National Rifle Association.

Critics of the bill point out there is no point in creating another bureaucratic hurdle to concealed-carry permit holders arriving in Colorado from other states because, like permit holders in Colorado, they are overwhelmingly law-abiding citizens.

Democrat Senators Lois Tochtrop, of Thornton, and Bob Hagedorn, of Aurora, and Jim Isgar, of Hesperus, voted with a majority of GOP senators against SB 34 last month.

“What concerned me was that out-of-state valid permit holders who come to Colorado are breaking the law (under the bill),” said Isgar.

Republicans argued in the Senate that SB 34 should be re-written to expand current law so that Colorado would recognize every valid concealed-carry firearms permit issued to legal citizens of the United States.

“This bill is an unnecessary restriction on concealed-carry permit holders,” Brophy said. “I’m disappointed that it’s moving on.”



House Majority Leader Alice Madden, D-Boulder, is the House sponsor of a Democrat bill restricting the use of some conceal-carry permits.

Maybe we should march on the Gov's Office and let hear what we think.

My .02 to the Governor is this. Other states CCW permits have been OK'd by OUR Attorney General. If he said the other state's CCW licenses are up to par with Colorado law, then HB-34 is a waste of time and a direct attack on our 2nd Amendment rights.
