Where is all the smoke coming from? Gold Camp?
Apparently a new fire near Mancos, but you're probably seeing smoke from the Springer fire...
Nope there's a fire up on Pyramid Mountain (Waldo Canyon area) ... they're evacuating Cedar Heights (that gated community west of the Garden of the Gods). Could actually see the flames on the mountain about an hour ago while driving northwest on Colorado Ave at about 31st st.
geez uz a fucking'nother one! better not be dumbass caused[Bang]
10 min ago from the south end of town. And I am showing 102 in the shade here. http://i884.photobucket.com/albums/a...e492Medium.jpghttp://i884.photobucket.com/albums/a...e493Medium.jpg
Good God. This is getting ridiculous.
Cedar Hills subdivision is under mandatory evac (that's the gated community just west of the Garden of the Gods that you enter by the Balanced Rock entrance to the park).
Cascade, Chipita Park and Green Mountain Falls are under voluntary evac. No word of any sort of Manitou Springs evac.
Garden of the Gods is closed.
Rampart Range Road is closed both on the Garden of the Gods end and up at the Woodland Park end.
Not sure if highway 24 is actually closed yet or if they're just discouraging people from going up the pass.
Looks like its moving north west (away from town thank God).
ya new fire up at Estes Part too. My wife and kids are being evacuated right now and told to come down, they were up there for a horse show at the fair grounds but where they were camped was just about 150 ft from the fire, so the wife tells me. Everyone is back at fairgrounds and loading up horses now though. Two bombers and a helicopter already working that one. Started in a cabin and went from there

Sorry, looked around a bit and didn't see the thread about it already.
So what's the deal with "Mandatory" evacuations? Are they truly mandatory?
Yup
I saw a C-130 drop some slurry on the ridge line. That was pretty cool. Here's a couple more pics:

Have and aunt and uncle who were evacuated also. this is getting crazy just heard of a new fire in Leadville too!

You guys down south be safe! This is truly getting crazy.
Oh for the love of Pete a second fire seems to be starting up down by Cheyenne Canon (Lower Gold Camp Road).
If these fires were started on purpose I hope they drag the guy through the streets when they catch him.
With this heat and no rain forecasted for at least another week we will be lucky to have any trees left in CO.
Wait another one?! Shit is crazy over at my work (Leasures Treasures/Amarillo Motel) all the shithead druggies know cops aren't showing up. This morning I kicked out two of them, they were fighting with a hatchet. One of them got cut to pieces, his shoulders were filleted and his nose was cut deep. I called the cops and they said good luck lol.
Good god, hope you guys down south are safe.
Haven't headed of any new one as of 630. Stay safe everyone!
Wouldn't been an entirely bad thing. Forests in the US are grossly overgrown. For a hundred years we have fought wildfires aggressively and are now paying the price.
Fire is a natural and necessary part of the eco-system and ensures healthy forests.
Us humans know what is best of course[Bang]
Protect life, protect structures but let them burn naturally.
You live close to me. I'm @ Dublin & Powers - West side of Powers.
My wife & I were in the area so we were sitting on 302th St. 1/10th mile West of Garden of the Gods main entrance/visitors center & we watched the flames crest the ridge & start heading towards a home up there. Then we went & watched from a viewing area off of Mesa Road & watched as flames crested the ridge further East. GoG, The Navigators, Verizon call center, etc. all mandatory evac'd. Also saw planes dropping slurry but this fire is moving with the high winds up there.
Just took a gander through the binocs and it is moving fast. [Eek2]
Found this live KKTV feed: http://www.kktv.com/video/live
Holy S#!%! The fire started heading South last night toward Manitou Springs! All of Manitou is under mandatory evacuation. The fire has now forced 7000 evacuations and has burned more than 2500 acres.
Forum members, if you are being evac'd and don't have a place to stay, please PM me.
I'm in Pleasant Valley (south of the east entrance to Garden of the Gods, less than a mile south of Gateway road).
I'm sure the fire will never get here but we're on edge waiting to see of we get stuck with an evacuation order anyway.
Just like the other thread; if anyone needs help evacuating guns and animals, let me know.
Stay safe everyone!
So that's eerie ... watching Channel 11 and they show a tanker plane flying over the fire ... and we can hear the tanker plane outside at the same time. [Shock]
Didn't see any general threads about this; mods, feel free to merge if I missed them.
Prayers to those fighting and those affected!
View from my front porch (about 12 miles from the fire) @ 2:20pm:

i just read on 9news (11am) that they are evacuating the ENTIRE TOWN of Manitou Springs
holy shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
http://www.9news.com/news/article/27...ess-conference
The entire town of Manitou Springs was evacuated as the Waldo Canyon Fire continues to burn. Mandatory evacuation orders were issued Sunday for Green Mountain Falls, Chipita Park and Cascade.
More than 10,000 people in the area have been ordered to evacuate.
The fire is burning near Waldo Canyon off of Highway 24 and is at zero percent containment. The fire is at 2,000 acres and growing. Smoke can be seen from the Denver area.
No structures have been burned and no injuries have been reported.
About 400 people are working the fire, just to the west of Colorado Springs.
Garden of the Gods Park and Garden of the Gods Visitor Center are closed.
Roads going into Manitou Springs are closed. Pikes Peak Highway is closed.
The Cedar Heights subdivision and Mountain Shadows south of Chuck Wagon are under mandatory evacuation. The evacuation boundaries include Rampart Range Road and everything west of 30th and Centennial, from Gateway Road, north to Chuck Wagon.
