Lost my cell phone yesterday and after freaking out about it all night, I have come to the conclusion that I am cell phone, Internet and electronic dependent.
I need an intervention!
Geez this is pathetic.
Might be time to rethink my life and my dependencies. Meh, who I am kidding I freak when the site goes down.
After retiring I realized that I no longer really needed a cell phone and haven't missed it a bit. On the other hand the internet is a daily need or at least it seems to be. [Beer]
I don't have a land line, I am also cell/net dependent.
I'm defnitely dependent on my phone. I don't call/text much but it's how I get my news, listen to podcasts, etc. Work would be unbearable without it.

Not so much dependent on the cell phone. I use it strictly as a phone...no smart-phone.
The internet? Different story. I'd have a hard time adapting to life without a broadband connection.
I'm not surprised you're one of those people who still uses a phone as a phone... not a bad thing. I use my phone for everything, internet, texting, calling, email, organizer, alarm clock.... If I ever lost it I think I would probably have a really hard time for a while...Quote:

My wife is the epitome of a cheap yankee. We NEVER answer the landline unless it's someone we want to talk to...which is rare because they always call the cell.
For the life of me I can't convince her we should cancel the Qwest service. $45 a month we could save. Her reason? "We've had the number for over 20 years now."

I haven't had a cell phone for almost 5 years now. I am a cheap bastard, and I take my wife's cell phone if I am really going to need it. I try to memorize all numbers that are important to me just in case I have an emergency and need to get a hold of someone.
I am going to get a phone here soon, but I think that I will wait until my wife qualifies for a renewal and we will both get new phones. I still don't want it, but it makes meeting up with people so much easier.

I hate cell phones, I do not need to be joined at the hip with anyone. I do have one because my wife makes me have one and it is under duress.
This past week my wife took the nieghbor and her two granddaughtors on an outing in a yurt up around Walden. The neighbor (64 years old) and the two girls spent most their time texting and all other nonsense on their cell phones instead of enjoying nature. That will be the last time. They can stay home and not waste time going up there...
It is my phone internet email music storage you name it. But I don't freak if it does not work.

The internet is my life. I install DSL and repair it daily for people.
Get a Vonage box for under 20 a month and you can transfer the phone number as part of the setup. Or get a Google Voice account and pay 10 bucks to transfer the number and you won't lose it even though it will forward to wherever you want.Quote:

As I have said I pay $80 per year for my cell phone. I use it for trips or when I am out for a while.
I do intend to switch my home phone # to vonage. In doing the math I should be able to increase my speed for the net and still save some $$$.

I do have magic jack at home and it works awesome. I would definitely recommend it and I believe it is quite a bit cheaper than vonage.

I always thought the looks I would get when I told people, "hey if I don't answer my house phone it means I'm busy doin shit" where hilarious. I didn't have a cell until about a year ago and it's really just a pain in the ass. The thing I hate the most about cell phones is our society is losing it's ability to actually communicate and show a little respect for each other. Go to the gas station or post office? put your phone down to talk to the clerk you retard, that is rude as shit and makes me want to slap you like your father should have. Out to dinner with your friends or family? again put the phone down numbnuts, you chose to spend the time with those people so do it, you come to dinner with me and mess around with your phone the whole time I'm leaving to spend time with someone who actually doesn't find my presence that terribly boring. I hire you for a job and you can't help but check your facebook and look up Vince Vaughn trivia factoids all day? guess what? you're fired, in case you hadn't noticed (which you probably haven't because your head is either down looking at that stupid phone or shoved in your ass all day) there isn't a shortage of people who need jobs right now and I bet I can throw a dart and hit someone with the same skill set but better work ethic than you.

Since I get business calls through my cell phone and I am a mobile service I am many times places like lines and such and my phone rings. I am very sorry but that is business and I have to take the call during normal business hours. HAVE TO. But that said I step out of line to answer the phone and let others go ahead.Quote:

I can understand that but I know for a damn fact all the people I see everyday aren't conducting business, and as you say you at least observe some rules of etiquette when doing so.

I'm pretty good with email though.
Gotta say, when I got to the smart phone era, it was worth it..love mine... Music, texting, the forums, searching etc... I was laid up when I got mine and it really made a difference...
I do hate when people are on the phone when there is somebody standing in front of them.. Its just about not being rude...
Base model Nokia flip phone. No internet functions. So many roll over minutes it's not even funny. I have never sent a text.
Still have a land line at the house (home office with hit 'n miss cell and internet service). Ooma at the shop and really happy with it. $200 for the box and no other charges after that.
Definitely hooked on the interweb. Both the house and shop are set up with wifi.
Me? Cell phone dependent? Hah! Not close, not even hardly! I hate the damn things.
Hell, I have a 32gb iPod Touch and all I know how to do with it is listen to music. I "hear" it's capable of many other things, maybe I'll put some photos on it someday, if I figure out how to.
Internet is another story though. Gots to have my web crack.
