I hate you Kyle........[Coffee]
That is awesome! I love seeing the A-10 strafe, it's awesome... We got a taste of that when I was in Basic at Ft. Lost-in-the-woods (Leonard Wood) but it was not quite that close. Thanks for sharing! [Beer]
You know what, I opened this thread because I wanted to feel better about my job, and to make some smart assed comment at your expense. But now I sit in my chair at work staring at control systems feeling a little more dead inside. Jerk.
Sorry, bud. Maybe this will cheer you up. This is a video from Asskrackistan where I controlled several GBU-38 strikes from a 2 ship of F-15s on a downed Blackhawk that couldn't be recovered. The video is from a UAV, is sanitized, and is a compilation of the entire mission. Enjoy. [Coffee]
Like Sharpie said, they do it all the time... in fact if they're the only air support on station/available, they can go "hot" with guns if heavy ordinance is either unnecessary or too risky or not approved. I'd rather have an AH-64 come in hot with their guns, but an Eagle or a Falcon is better than nothing. [Beer]
I'm with Bert! You Suck!![Coffee]
Apaches are cool, too. But I would take the A-10 over anything else. And besides, 30 millimeters of high explosive incendiary rounds and armor piercing depleted uranium rounds make me feel kinda funny in my pants.
ETA: I wonder what kind of form the ATF would make me fill out to get my own GAU-8 Avenger?
I don't know. The name sounds vaguely familiar. Sometimes, depending on your position in relation to the target and the aircraft, you can hear the rounds explode on target before you hear them being fired. Of course, if they're being shot at you, you don't hear them at all. Maybe that's where the "whispering death" comes from.
Apparently that was the M1 Abrams they nicknamed Whispering Death.

I just ate my boot to make my day more interesting. Thanks bunches.......... But seriously that's really cool...
very cool! My favorite plane is the A-10. I still wish I would have enlisted so I could have flown them.
i was strafed by an A-10 back in the day at the UTTR...I'm glad my ground radio equipment was being monitored by sum airborne guys & sum ground controllers who let the A-10 guys know there was people at that location.
Spent the next two hours waiting for EOD to clear a path back to the road for me from the field I ran into to shit my pants
Oh...and your job so does not suck!
I've seen first hand in the sandbox what these guys do. BZ!
You job does not suck! Awesome, thanks for sharing the photos and videos.
Why you haven't slit your wrists yet, I'll never know. Poor guy. [Beer]
FWIW we had a family friend that helped design the F-16 guns at GD. Kinda interesting to here the very topical stories.
