Divorce lawyer recommendation (Boulder)?

My wife was recently arrested for domestic violence against myself, has a restraining order against her, and she is now filing for Divorce. I was served the papers this morning. She is suffering from severe postpartum depression (hence the violence) but I need a recommendation if anyone has one for a good family divorce lawyer in the Boulder area. Kids are involved.

Given her current mental state she is refusing any type of mental and/or medication for her condition although I suppose the court will force something on her next month during the pre-trial.

Sigh. Life sucks sometimes.

Thank you for the replies. It's hard to talk with your best friend when she is totally out to lunch with hatred. I never realized that postpartum changes someone that much. I suppose some of it is guilt from me finding out 2 years ago that my 8 year old daughter is not mine from a 12 year marriage. Sigh.

Feel free to call me an idiot but her rage was so intense that I asked the Deputies to come over and help me secure and store my firearms for me. I have receipts for everything marked "Voluntarily given" and they were extremely cool about the whole thing. One of them was a Marine and we had a great time fooling with the AR's, he even mentioned that he'll have the armorer fix my ejector on my 870 for me. He gave me some shit about using an EOTech though, "all we had were iron sites in my day!" which was funny. "But at least I could go FullAuto!"

Very very nice Deputies, frankly I was amazed at how nice and understanding they were. I'll get everything back once things cool down but I'm glad to have all of my firearms out of the house and stored in a safe location for right now. Although I sure miss shooting paper; it was one of my ways to take a break and have some quiet time by myself.

Nobody will give you a hard time about securing your firearms. Especially when people's lives could potentialy be at risk.

Some of us may have gone another way, but atleast you're lookin out and thinking with your head.

I've never been married, so i can't recommend a lawyer. I will tell you to look into pre-paid legal, they give reduced rates on all legal services.

Yep, 2 years ago. I try to practice forgiveness as one of my personal improvement goals and although it was extremely painful to find that out it was a great lesson to learn forgiveness from. It's actually harder than it sounds :cry:

But I feel like a fool for not reading the writing on the wall. Well...live and learn. I'm just tired of being hurt so deeply. Again. It's time to take charge and start protecting myself a wee bit more.

Your not a fool I am not going to go into detail but I was engaged and I kicked her A$$ to the curb. I had to see her for the first time in 17 years last summer at my 20 year high school reunion and lets just say I was an A-hole. Some things can not be forgiven.

She is living back with mommy and daddy which made me feel in a sadistic way good. :twisted: She came up to me started small talk we chatted for a few. Then she said wow you have done really well for your self....I said yep and walked away. The clothes I had on, My leathers since I rode my Harley :mrgreen: are worth more than she will ever be. That is called poetic justice. I hope you get yours. [wink]

Thank you! That was exactly what I needed to hear.

You really need to try and get it moved out of the Boulder system. Almost anywhere than there. I have a friend that has been through hell because it was initiated (and thus stays) in the Boulder system.

She was going out to bars, staying out all night and eventually for days on end leaving him to care for 4, 3, and 1 year olds. She was doing drugs and other men. She ended up with the kids and about $900-1200 per month. When he lost his job and had to take a much lower paying job the court refused to reduce the amounts of child payments. He has gotten screwed out of tax benefits and out of getting to see the kids. She has hawled him into court on a 6 month cycle for several years trying to do nothing but cause him problems. This has gone on for years.

Get out of Boulder.

I'm not sure I can. The papers were filed, probably deliberately, in Boulder County. I found an ex-DA who is now in private practice in Boulder so he knows the ropes so to speak. I'll see how screwed I am after talking with him today. I'm hoping that her arrest and mental history background will at least get me joint custody of my daughter and infant son. Either way I know I'm screwed but such is life. I'll survive, but it pisses me off to no end that she simply used me to provide financial support to raise a child that wasn't even mine biologically. And she lied about it for 6 years until the guilt within her blew a fuse plus finding out that the newborn infant is blind since he inherited her genetic difficulties.
