restraining order question

Has anyone gotten a permanent restraining order overturned? 13 years ago my new wife's ex husband was trying to intimidate her into doing what he wanted despite the court orders. Finally I had had enough when he grabbed her and defended her. He previosly (while seperated) sent her on an ambulance ride because of abuse. The judge in the case ordered a restraining order to be filled out, one for me and one for him. The judge's reasoning was that this would keep him from running his mouth, which it did. Now I find myself unable to obtain a CCW permit because of my this. Anyone know how I can go about rectifying this situation? Suggestions?? Would hiring an attorney be the best thing? Know of a reasonable one? This happened in Adams County if it matters.

Was it a TRO or a RO? One being Temp stating a certain amount of time, the other being for life.

It's quite the process to get a RO issued, but a TRO can be done pretty easily.

Contact the court, find out, go from there. Either way get an atty would be my suggestion. Chances are you will need to file something to absolve it, or speak to the judge to reverse or a new judge to vacate previous judges order.

If you are subject currently to the RO I would tread very very carefully around firearms depending on the order itself.

It is a permanent restraining order. The first time I tried to buy a firearm afterwards there was a delay. I did get approved and have not had any issues since. Since it does not involve a child or intimate partner it does not prevent me from owning or posessing a firearm just from getting my CCW.

I am thinking an attorney would be my best bet also. Anyone know of a good inexpensive lawyer?? Lol ok after I wrote that I had to laugh, how about reasonably priced??

I know of a 'lawyer' who we send our weird shit too.. he's handled a LOT of domestic stuff.. He'd be free for me..but I don't know wtf he'd charge you..

My friend, Brian Wilson, is a good, pro-gun attorney. He's in Bailey but I'm not sure it really matters. He's in the metro-area with court/clients all the time. Reasonable fees...but he's still an attorney!

Well, went to court in December and got the restraining order dismissed. Got my training course done and applied for my CCW on 12-17-2012. I got a call on the 13th of March that my permit was ready to pickup! It was cost me about $2,000 for one of the best lawyers I have ever had! That's not logical. Blaming all women over restraining orders is akin to blaming all gun owners because of a few insane members of society.

Every woman I have dated has been borderline psychotic. I've only seriously dated 15 or so but I am for sure jaded to women right now. I would rather take myself out for a range trip than take a pretty blonde to dinner.

OK, I was just venting. I've actually never dated an insane woman. They have all been wonderful. But, I know friends that have. It's just dangerous spending time with someone that you don't know very well. And vise-verse.
And in this society we give women all the cards. They can make whatever accusations they want and your life becomes heavily problematic. With recent laws and probable future ones, we'll just loose our guns over an accusation. This is going to work perfectly for the gun grabbers.

I know it seems that way right now, and I also knwo with this feel-good willy-nilly legislature, the odds are definitely stacked against gun owners. I think you hit it on the head with your statement about spending time with somoene you don't know very well.
It's a sad testament to the mainstream society's views. The pendulum has swung from one extreme to another.

I've known friends that have had the same problems. It all stems down to communication and trust, I think. And listening to the little voice in your head that may warn you off.
