Picked this up dirt cheap, it is some sort of military container.
I am wondering what it was originally used for, the stenciling is so faded that you can just tell that something was written on it.

Maybe an old sea trunk?
Any serial # or manufacturer plate? What does it say on the right side I can't make it up? Could you post/send me a detailed pic of the locking mechanism? It will give a clue of the era.
It looks like some storage box you can find on the side of a vehicle or a gun carriage.
It is all steel and originally OD, and heavier than ....well it is heavy, it is military but I dont think it was Navy, it wasn't painted gray.
Here are a couple more pictures, there are two of the bolt handles, one on each end and the lock hasp in the center.
Between the surface rust and faded worn paint, I cannot make out the writing on the right end.
Pm your way.
Don't know what it was used for, but I want it, it looks cool !!
Trunk Monkey.
Scankers Gimp Box.......
it's a dickfer
I cant wait to play this game with my cellphone when I'm your age.
Just kidding...
Part of some kind of maintenance kit?
Looking at the top of it the way the brackets are might be to hold something, possibly when its in the open position??
It was used to store and transport items. Given it's current condition it looks to still be capable or storing and transporting items now.
Im thinking Military Grade Squelch Oil or maybe Grid Squares for Land Nav TNG.
I don't now, so this is just a gess...
I'm thinking small arms (rifle) transport/storage chest.
Really, page 3 and noone has said "Dead Hookers" yet? I'm dissapointed.
I can make out 'S-T' on the second pic. ?
No help here, but thats a cool box!
Davey Jones' Locker.
OP have you opened it yet?
We had a couple of chests like these that were used for storing mooring equipment. They were not green, blue if I remember correctly but they looked just like that. If they were on a smaller amphib ship they might have been green. I am sure the marines would have used something like it too.
C'mon Bob, you know damn well what its for.
Your junk.
That's right, put your junk in the box and slam the lid.
Now your junk is out of the way.
You don't have to worry about your junk when it is in the box.
Your junk is protected in the box.
Nobody else can access your junk when it is in the box.
You know where your junk is next time you need your junk: In the box.
Don't forget where you put the box with your junk in it though.
Bathroom kit
Thought I would resurrect this thread from the dead files.
I've never seen so many pathetic attempts at humor, no wonder the Labor Dept. Statistics show 2.3 million unemployed comedians...[LOL]
Maybe there is a really Old Fart that was napping when I originally posted this and was around at the time this was in use in the military and can shed some light on what this container was used for.......[Tooth]
are there any mounts on the bottom? on the inside , does it look as if someone has removed old munitions cradles ?? the navy keeps more munitions in metal cans in boxes (or at least used to). unlike the army who uses more cardboard and wood . it could be an old fuse box or something . there should be markings stamped into the metal if its even military at all . but these markings can be a real bitch to find . also look for (typewriter size) stamped date and or container number (usually found along a joint of fold in metal ) .
Contraceptive container for Sandra Fluke.
Where else are you gonna stash $3K worth of Trojans?
Mystery solved.
