BMW Attacking Elk.
At least a 5 series. The 3 series isn't big enough to be ethical.
X5. Preferably the turbo diesel version! I miss my 3-series...
Alright Jim, asking this is as bad as asking about CCW wait times.
Use the search function in the right section. MODs please move this to the hunting discussion thread...............[ROFL1]
It's really about handling more than cubic displacement. I hear guys talking about, "Oh you've gotta have a 7 series if you want to bring them down at long range." I think that's BS though; I've seen plenty of them taken with a 328i up to a 335xi. You don't need anything bigger than that in CO.
Overweight secretary laying down suppressive fire while waving and listening to her I-pod should protect the BMW from any elk damage. [ROFL1]
Gotta have at least 17" rims on that whip too.
It's all dependent on if you have the BMW night vision package and can tag them while they are standing in the line of fire asleep.
I think you could take one with a 1-series at close range, out a little further if its the twin turbo..
Aren't BMWs chick cars?
one of these http://www.alpineco.com/armored/BMW/7series.html
Mine is 600 HP, you decide if that is chick or not.
"Strong enough for a man...but made for a woman."
:)
ouch, I remembered that one too...
Love this thread
Gotta go with Baily on this one. Bringing a Beemer to an Elk fight is like bringing 9mm to a gun fight. [Peep] [Luck]
Powerstroke, get it over quick.
Why is it always the expensive BMWs? A VW can do the job just as well!
Almost any 4-wheel vehicle can bring down an elk with sufficient speed.
However, to ensure survivability of the driver and passengers, ballistic glass needs to be employed. Otherwise, goring from antlers entering through the windshield is possible or the entire carcase can enter the cab at high speed thereby crushing the occupants. Obviously, this would foil any plot by the driver to dispatch the elk without casualties occurring to those within.

If ballistic glass is not attainable, an F150 or larger is recommended.
That is quite awesome...
Check out the far right side of the table: http://www.alpineco.com/our-vehicles/ I want one of those!
A K1200LT would certainly bring down an elk, but I don't want to be the hunter. Doing it with 2 wheels is more sporting...like archery season, but different.
Are you implying my car is a girl's car? You're probably right- chicks do love my beemer... and I have a 3-series, I think it would sustain quite a bit of damage, but the elk would surely be dead... I can't say what is optimal, but I would say don't try and use a Smart car... [Coffee]
Guess I need a larger car to take elk.
I had a lot of success with deer in a 79 Datsun Sentra, but that was before I moved to Colorado.

Wouldn't want to be caught in elk mating season without enough car.
X5M or 1M. Just in case the elk can run really really fast. Love driving those M series :)
Any will work as long as it is outfitted appropriately with a 40% mark-up on accessories, a guide, and somebody to clean up the mess when it is done.
Shhhhh, it's a "Secret"! Yeah, I'm old enough to remember...
And for the record, I would NOT want to take any 4-legged creature with a K1200LT!
If I'm driving on private property, do I still need a hunting license?
Not if you beep at the gate first!
Get a BMW 2002 - or any of the models from back when they actually used some real metal in them.
