25% is pretty darn steep. On a $500 pistol, thats $125. If 8% sales tax, thats $40 more - for a total of $665. ouch!

Might want to check your math Singlestack-article says $25.00, not 25%.
However it is a foreboding sign, notice how it says "First city in the country".
If O gets a second term look for this kind of crap nationwide.
We know that he and his stellar AG are very much against private firearms ownership.
A second term will see an anti American Marxist unleashed..........
Good catch sir! $565 then. Oh well, thats what I get for posting before a cup of coffee...
I see a $25.00 tax... not 25%Quote:
Under the plan, Cook County, Ill., will impose a $25 tax on each firearm sold. The tax is expected to raise $600,000 in revenue in 2013.
which is a huge difference
What fools.... There are hardly any gun stores in cook county. They pretty much drove them all out. I know of ONE and he was right on the edge of the county. There might be a few more but not many.
I don't think they are going to make hardly anything.
Most Dealers would pass the "tax" on to he consumer. I can see that kind of tax happening nationwide on ammo and reloading components. "They" may leave the gun issue alone so "they" can crow about how gun friendly "they" are... JMHO
this needs to be challenged.
We already pay 11% for the Pittman-Robertson Act which i am happy to pay because of how the law was written and where the money goes.
This over-taxation needs to be stopped dead in it's tracks.
Honestly I'm surprised that there are even any gun stores in the county. I remember doing lots of work in that county and tried looking for them so I had something to do to kill some time and I found 1 and that was 5 years ago.
Basically if a gun store wanted to open the neighbors would bitch and complain and the city would refuse them a permit.
I was back there last year and a walmart about 1.5 hours from the city was not allowed to sell certain types of ammo because the old folks in a mobile home park about a .5 mile away were bitching about it being dangerous to sell ammo for a ar15
The f-ing lunacy there was stunning.
Honestly IL isn't that bad south of I-80.... Or in other words the lower 75%.
The rest of IL is pretty much run by the Chicago politicians.
Obamas former Chief of Staff, now Mayor of Chicago. Hey it is Cook County! They probably use the money to buy ballistic vests for themselves. Now Grandma has to pay the political thugs $25 to protect herself from the MUY (minority urban youth) that break into her house! Maybe they will add a "senior discount" to this law, oh yeah and include a "Disabled Veteran" discount too. 100% discount!

So legal gun owners that committed no crime have to pay healthcare costs from gun violence...
Why don't let everyone pay shit tax for using toilets?
Some people have been paying $200 per transfer on some guns since 1934. This includes between individuals, not just dealers.
And you get to wait 3 months to a year or more to get approved per transfer.
National Firearms Act of 1934. It sucks.
