I know what kind of rifles I like, what kind I can afford, and what the "best" are. My question however is:
I have a barrett REC7 5.56 and I love it. I have only put about 700 rounds through it but I want to start shooting more. I also dont want to only have 1 rifle that I use for classes, SHTF, training, maybe 3 gun and plinking who knows what else. Id like to keep one with a relatively low round count and then a trainer... Finally my question.
Should I get another REC7 or get something else?

IMHO, the Rec7, being a piston driven gun, is not, nor can it be made, optimum for 3Gun. The recoil impulse just slows you down too much for high speed competition. It is probably fine for the other stuff.
18" stainless barrels with rifle length gas, match triggers and a good 1-4 optic lay the foundation for a good 3Gun AR-15. If you build one, you will likely use it for plinking, practice and 3Gun and may eventually leave the Rec7 for the HD/Zombie/backup role.
First ask yourself, what is the primary purpose for the REC 7 rifle you already have? If this is your SHTF rifle. buy something else that will cover other needs like training, competition, etc. Now if the REC 7 does cover your other needs then buy another one.

As long as both rifles are similarly equipped I wouldn't see a problem with it.
just make sure you have 2, 1 for each hand for all scenarios...
