Finally got a Saiga 12!

So, today even in light of all the gun buying craziness, I decided to go to the gun store in pueblo to pick up some odds and ends. I immediately noticed that there were only 3 semi-auto guns left in the store, two .22LR AR-15 wannabees and a Saiga 12 which still had the factory paper tag hanging from it, and a safety flag in the bore. I figured with the long background wait times that those three were already sold, and waiting for a check to clear so they could be picked up. I got my shopping done, some OC for the wife, a few ranger plates for some Pmags and a weapon light when I go to checkout. I ask the salesman "that Saiga is sold right?" , he says "no". I look at the wife and ask "How much?". The wife made me return the other goodies I had picked out, but happily agreed to buying the Saiga, which they said they had placed on the shelf a mere 2 mins before my arrival. It was the shot barreled version (19") and was already converted to a pistol grip and standard AK buttstock. I'm somewhere north of the 10,000th in line on background checks, but hey. I get to bring this home sometime early next year maybe.

that is awesome, you said a standard buttstock or does it have a left side folder like the picture?

i'm hoping a vepr 12 wont just be a fantasy when the dust settles

I've got a Saiga 12 on my long list of dream guns... for when I have so much money I don't know what to do with it.

I am suffering from sellers remorse now and am regretting selling the S-12 that I had a few months back.

To the member that bought my S-12, I hope that you are a kind hearted individual and have read the thread of the generous members buying firearms from others and selling them back to the original owners at a later date at the purchase price. After all, it is almost Christmas.

no shit... you got a S12 with an AK100 series side folding stock??? Wow!!! That is one pricy build even back in the day.

The one I'm getting doesn't have the side folder :( , just a plain ole ak stock, but I'm still stoked. I'm thinking of getting the 8 round stick mags, they seem to be the least cumbersome. This will probably be my home defense go-to gun. I'll keep a mag of buck in the gun and maybe a mag of slug attached to it somehow, so if the situation needs more accuracy that buckshot, or more penetration, I can switch up by changing mags.

I just wonder when I'll get the chance to pick it up. I think I paid a decent price for it, $950, a little marked up but eh, I've wanted one for a long long time.

$950 is a decent price.

Shotgun ammo is basically the only ammo that can have this problem. Never been an issue with tube fed shotguns, for obvious reasons. But now that we are dealing with magazines/drums you might want to check into this. (or check your mags/ammo after a while)

Because shotgun shells are soft sided. If your magazine has a good spring, it "can/might" eventually squish the front end of the shell into an oval shape, causing it to potentially mis-feed. I do not keep any mags loaded for home defense with anything other than slugs. Kind of hard to squish a slug. I will pre-load a mag with shot-shells the night before going shooting or a match, and have not had any problem feeding, when leaving them loaded overnight.

Just passing on what I have heard/read. Not going to test it myself.

I never thought about the ammo squishing ... thanks for the info, would have never thought of that until "click", haha. Thanks!

They will deform the front of the shell. I had my Saiga with a 5 round mag in the closet when I used to work at night for the wife. After a few weeks I went to inspect it and noticed the first round was oblong from pressing against the bolt.
the other option was to keep the bolt locked to the rear or just leave the mag out.
NOT recommended for long periods of time.
Just my experience. You could maybe use an 8 or 10 rd mag and only load half the rds to keep the tension low.
Now I'm using a tube feed 12 gauge.
