So, I have a .308 that I plan on shooting from 100 to 600 yards with. Do I really need a scope base with built in elevation for those distances? Even if I don't need it, will it be a problem if I do use one?

At those distances, no you don't need a 20MOA base. Would it hurt no. would i get one yes. Long range shooting is adicting. After a while 600yds won't seem that far. Then you will be glad you have one.

I see they offer them in 15, 20, and 30 MOA. Wold 20 be the best all-around? I can just about guarantee you I would probably never shoot past about 1,000 yards.
I've got an extra you can have. I think you might need to come up with the screws though. PM me your address if you want it, I'll mail it.

What base did you end up going with? I'm in the exact same boat as you, I have a 700 on order (in stock, but still hasn't shipped due to backlog, and then I have to wait for CBI once it finally arrives) and I already have a scope (the old Springfield Armory 6x40 Gov Model scope that I've had for ~10 years) w/ rings, now I just need a base.
