It's awesome to know our sport/hobby has gone mainstream.
I'm just glad they got that pesky 100 hour clock improved.... Although, I don't think going from "hours waited" to DAYS is much of an improvement.
On the El Paso County front as far as CCW Permits go, I had a student tell me yesterday that her appointment with the Sheriffs Office was scheduled for March 6th. So if you call now you can look at about a 2 month wait.
I wonder now if they'll ever get this caught up, or if they just continue to keep a 10,000 check backlog to act as a waiting period.
Man I love your avatar :)
I mentioned in another post a friend of mine bought a new AR from Wal-Mart yesterday. He walked out of the store with almost immediately. This was a Colorado Walmart. Seems the chain uses the FBI background. To bad the gun shops can't do that.
I don't think any dealer is exempt from going through the CBI. Sounds like Walmart made a mistake :-(
I still believe its horse shit that as a CCW holder I have to wait for a cbi check! Even in Las Vegas where they are way stricter on guns I never had to do a background check. But politicians aren't the brightest people around obviously.
By the time I get my new rifle shipped from Buds and do the application I should have it by February. [Coffee]
Sorry all, I put my BGC for a new Sig... I hope to have her by next weekend. What I really don't understand here is where the hell are all these coming from continuously? It was at 10,000 on Sat, and today it's at 11,000? So people keep flooding in and submitting checks? They get to what? 1200-1400 per day, and it would seem that 12-1500 keep submitting every day. I'm assuming, since prior to this posting, my BGC was entered, so maybe I have 6 days or so to wait. I'm still not happy, I've never had to wait more than an hour for my BGC.
The concern here, and it's a fair one, is that something could happen to make you ineligible, e.g. a restraining order or mental health hold, but you could still have your physical permit in hand. Without the background check, the seller is relying on potentially outdated info.
so does anyone know what date/time checks are being processed now? I figured i would have heard something about my check that was started about this time last friday but i haven't yet.
CBI has a Facebook page?
That's why it'd be EXTREMELY important to some how update this type info (on a timely basis) with the official who actually issued that persons CCW. That official would then have to make immediate contact with the CCW holder advising him/her that their permit is no longer valid and must be returned to the issuing Officer immediately. But, this still wouldn't prevent the CCW holder to make purchases in the mean time..... Don't know how it would/could work but surely other States must have some system to update this type info.
Everyone has a Facebook page these days...

A right delayed is a right denied.
So it's 8 hours ago from December 29. The last date of the 23rd made me think that was the last day it was updated. That made me think it wasn't public. If it is really 8 hours ago from today and is totally public I will agree with you bout being a more efficient way of doing it.
Thanks for clarifying that for me.
understand....its like 140 hours...
But BUSINESS hours...FEDERAL BUSINESS HOURS.
Dont get too excited....
"CBI InstaCheck completed 1,274 background checks for firearms purchases on Friday. Currently working on checks submitted on 12/21/12."
Sportsmans Warehouse in COS was quoting 7-9 days yesterday. The backlog at the time was 11,740.
Just got my call from last Friday. :)
From their FB page two hours ago...Colorado Bureau of Investigation
CBI InstaCheck completed 1,274 background checks for firearms purchases on Friday. Currently working on checks submitted on 12/21/12.
I was under the impression that CBI could do about 2,000 checks per day even before the recently expanded business hours. So why did they complete "only" 1,274?
Prior to this, they rarely had to process more than 1000 in a day. The volume they are seeing is unprecedented. In October they processed a total of 28000.
Why does someone with a concealed carry permit even need to get a background check? That person has already been thouroughly vetted by the authorities. Seems to me they could streemline the system if they cut out the redundant checks on those folks.
