Needing Advice on Mid-Long Range scopes

I have been Reading these forums for just about a week, and decided it was time to start posting in them :)

Right now i'm in Preperation to use my M&P15T for mid to long range precison target shooting, and need help in choosing a suitable scope, Obivously if I had the cash I would just go buy a Leupold but i'm not THAT well off. [ROFL1]. Longest range I would want to shoot would be around 400yards.

I'm really clueless about Scopes, and looking for some input. I would want a decent quaility scope, but my limit is about $200 and under. Any Advice?

I have a Harris Bipod coming in along with a Rail attachment for the harris. There just not here yet.

First off, Welcome.

Second, I'll admit that I'm not the optics expert around here, And there may be a few laughs from others about this suggestion, But, Take a look at the Simmons Atec. A decent scope, right in You're price range. Had one on My varmint setup, Never had a complaint about it. And, it more or less did what I wanted it to do.

simmons is decent. i'm using a burris fullfield II 3x9. once had a burris 6X on a 20" ar was able to do prairie dogs out there w/out any issues.

This could go out beyond 400 yards too.

I originally bought it for my AR varmit rig. I got rid of that varmit rig, so I don't need the scope.

Millett DMS or TRS

I dont normally asscoiate "Precision Optics" and under $200, but...

Try looking at a Weaver T-16 scopes. The guts of them are really well made and the clicks hold up over time. A lot of cheaper scopes have absolute crap insides and they wear out of fail in short order. They are really popular with Silhouette shooters cause they last, are light, and the clicks track well.

Sightron is pretty good as well.

Burris is pretty much over your $$$ limit, but is closer than Leupold, Nightforce, USO or S&B.

There used to be a Burrus factory second store on the highway just south of Greeley. I picked up some real bargins there awhile ago.

i had a simmons and it wouldn't a zero for any thing. thing was junk IMO.

Agree with Hoser, been down that road...My advice, save your money and get a quality scope.

I also disagree with a previous post. Nothing will make up for shooting skill, but there is a reason why scopes are priced the way they are. Look through a Simmons or Trashco, then look through a Zeiss or Nightforce, espically in low light, and you will see the difference.

I recently put the BSA panther scope on my AR-15 and am actually pretty impressed with it. I am not a BSA fan but this scope is pretty nice for like $139 at cabelas.

I would also really take a look at the Mueller scopes they have excellent reviews. I just put the 4-16 X 50 Sport Dot on my 300 Remington Ultra Mag. I think they are the best scopes out right now for the money. Check them out you won't be dissapointed.
