Clip vs Magazine indoctrination

Many here get irritated when someone calls a magazine a clip.
Many here are also misinformed as when they think they know what the true definition is.

I'm playing devil's advocate here.

A magazine is where ammunition or munition supplies are stored.
This comes waaay back when magazines stored spears, battle axes and cannon supplies.
The magazine in a war ship stores powder and projectiles.

A clip is a magazine loading device- most people will not even argue this definition.

The problem with the poorly informed or the military indoctrinated is that all removable ammunition devices are referred to as magazines.
Stripper clips or clips fill magazines... most will agree

An M1 Garand has an internal storage area (magazine) that is loaded via stripper clips.

Most Semi Auto pistols have a ammunition storage area located in the hand grip that is loaded via a what? The grip should be a magazine and what should load it? A clip or a magazine?
Since it is just a hole and not an ammunition feeding device the hole is just a hole for the magazine... but you can understand where some confusion starts between clip and magazine.
But wait, by definition a magazine is just a storage device not a feeding device so that pistol magazine actually feeds ammunition to the gun and could be clip when removed.
So a pistol magazine when removed from the pistol by definition is a clip and where it is inserted is a magazine.

This point is even more evident when a magazine only partially holds ammunition feeding device like in most high capacity semi-auto rifles. If the ammunition feeding device is hanging out of the gun or the magazine, by definition doesn't it now become a clip?

Now some of you are fuming mad.... This guy is really not right!! We all know what a magazine and a @#$%$ clip is !!
What he is describing is a magazine well not the magazine!

In know that we as gun people need to realize is that sometimes things are named one thing or another. A name doesn't make it right or wrong. Just because someone called a mag well not a magazine doesn't necessarily make it so. By definition it is a magazine, not a magazine well. So getting offended when somebody calls a magazine a clip is just being testy. They may actually be right!

I completely agree, if by "right" you meant "ignorant".

The common vernacular is "magazine". It shows familiarity with the culture and an understanding of the commonly used terms. That's why it's so damn annoying when they can't get it right and result to calling my MAGAZINE a god damn piece of fruit.

M1 Garands are loaded by 8,,5,,or 2 round ENBLOCKS they are not loaded va "stripper clips",,nor is there a "magazine".

Since we're edumacating, they're enbloc (or en bloc) clips --- no 'k' and they ARE clips. [blah-blah]

I have a couple hundred over here if you'd like to see ... (although about 150 of them are still in spam cans that I don't want to open) ;-)

An M1 Garand does have an internal magazine. That's where the en bloc clip is inserted into.

Press the second round into the clip, exerting a downward, turning motion until the round snaps into place. Load the remaining rounds in the same manner. With the knife edge of the the right hand against the operating rod handle force the operating rod slightly to the rear. Push down on the top round with the right thumb, allowing the bolt to start the top round forward. Remove the right hand and allow the operating rod to go forward.
