I'm kinda of torn about this...
I'm all for realistic training, but why in a residential neighborhood?

I don't have a problem with it. If you're concerned about the military going through towns clearing the place out, do you think they'd hit an elementary school first?
It beats spending money to build a center specifically for that purpose.
What better place than a school? Real world scenarios need real world training grounds.
We used to use soon to be demo'ed houses to train in all the time when I was in OSI. Hell, the academy at Andrews AFB would move from neighborhood to neighborhood on base as the houses were scheduled for and then demolished. We used simunitions, and we would come out and find the neighbors sitting around in their lawn chairs (from a distance) watching the training. Big bldg with lots of doors, corners, and stairwells? Premo training grounds.
right next door to a huge shopping center in SoCal is the old tustin USMC air base, I read from a guy that snuck in to do some photography in the hangars, and he found simunition casings *everywhere*. You can bet your bottom dollar that police, military, etc train in these places all the time.
Heck, in FRANCE the army trains all the time in the villages as civilians go about their business, casually stepping aside to let the troops do their thing (obviously not with live ammo, but rifles, LMG's, etc).
They used many of the old buildings for training when they were tearing down Fitzsimmons.
I'm not saying that's the reason why they did this specific scenario. But if you think about it, geographically speaking, schools are typically centered in neighborhoods, and their architectural/structural features are better suited than houses for a base of operations. My unit did the same thing in a Haiti: we usually acquired a school or church in the middle of the mud hut towns, and ran the "peacekeeping" operation from there. Again, I'm not saying they are practicing that, but I'm not saying they aren't either.
I trained myself at Drum and Berlin in old buildings, but like you guys state (unless I'm misunderstanding you) that was on military/federal property (exception-road marches in the outskirts of Berlin at 3AM)
You guys are probably right, I've been watching to much GBTV and my tin-foil hat is too tight. I should probably accept military training in our cities as the new norm.
Ohh, it's just killing what the Guinness hasn't! [ROFL1]

Gay Bi Transvendered ??
Oh I really torn on this. Why not notify the public? because of fear of on lookers b/s. There was a large scenario in the Denver Metro area a while back and the public was notified. I call b/s. Wheres my tin foil hat[panic]
It's common practice for military & LE to train in local areas. I've jumped into and cleared civilian airports while passengers were corraled into "safe areas" for us. Just because the mil cant operate in our schools doesn't mean they won't be fighting in another countrie's schools...
this is exactly why our police and Military need to give up their assault rifle with high capacity clips!!
Think of all of the Children that had to be put on lockdown to save their lives!!!
THE CHILDREN!!!
I read an article about this written by a former Ranger and Green Beret and he said they do it all the time. It's done to change it up so the guys aren't always running through the same shoot house which I imagine is pretty crucial when you're preparing for a real world op... you'll never know how to adjust on the fly if you can walkthrough a building with your eyes closed.
