how would you restore the republic?

how would you fix problems like the incrementalism of goverment,the loss of our freedom, education, the loss of our 2nd Amendment freedoms..ect what would you do?

as for me,

Show proof of citizenship/photo ID, some form of receipt from the IRS proving you paid taxes the previous year, and proof that you aren't currently receiving any form of government welfare to vote. Everything else stays as-is. There I fixed it.

That would be the start. In the end the goal is for people to become responsible for themselves again and for business to flourish.

Repeal the income tax and institute a flat tax, reduce the pay of our "public servants" to what the average American brings home after taxes, make the legislative sessions for congress only 12 weeks long and they get only 12 weeks pay based on the above average with no perks, they pay their own way, if a person needs public assistance they must pass drug tests to receive with monthly follow up testing, eliminate federal departments of everything, you get the drift: cut federal government to what the constitution allows.

Hmmmmmmm! With unlimited airfare and 96 hours of amnesty, what a great new beginning!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bust the goverment down to 1/3 its size, disolve Homeland security and go back to the smaller distinct deptartments needed, disolve The FED reserves and hire REAL accountants and financial specialists, and rid ourselves of the TSA.

Bring our troops home, put money into developing a smaller but the most advanced military (peace through superior firepower) push for an alternative fuel that can be retro fitted into existing cars to rid our dependency on oil from overseas.

Follow MAGPUL and Revitalize American industry create new jobs for the unemployed and for the troops coming home. Punish businesses that have production overseas or transfer jobs overseas. Reinforce the Constitution and the bill of rights. With a downsized Military in man power, create a "Minuteman" program where civilians are trained and allowed to CCW anywhere even on a plane, at least 1 out of every 10 and train them much like the Swiss civilians that can also act as backup to the enlisted Armed Forces. With this make in mandatory the young men and women have to train and serve in the military in some fashion at least 2 years upon graduating from high school.

First seal the southern borders from Texas to Arizona. Don't know if a fence is the answer, but I would find the people who know how to do it and enable them to do so. Maybe I'll ask Si.

Second, split CA at the upper knee and then seal the California border to isolate southern CA with the same methodology and deed those surface rigths to Mexico. Allow CA residents to apply for admission into US based on a constutional oath with a 10 year probationary period.

Third, create and seal a border from Ohio to Virginia placing Cincinati, Cleavland, DC, NY, etc. north of that border. Deed those surface rights to Canada and same admission to US for those residents.

Fourth, using the Constitution, create a small National government to do what it was originally supposed to do and keep it out of our personal lives, education, and so many more.

One new law...require all states to rewrite and then vote on their own state Consitution which would include those issues of which the State has a right to legislate. However, it could NOT limit any Constitutional rights in ANY way.

Flat tax collected by each state and held in trust by the state for the Federal government and payments released for those Federal services on a per capita basis. Basically, the Fed can only incur expenses at the pleasure of the states and has no power to collect or levy taxes, only the states.

Reinstate the CMP with a 2 week required boot camp for all persons in their 18th year of life. One year of Federal service in some capacity required before admission to college or 2 years upon graduation from college.

Welfare is only administered at the state level, but they have to have a balanced budget and if they don't the other states have the power to freeze their accounts and adjust their programs, but only if they can not make their Federal payments.

Require the states to enforce the immigration laws with penalties for lack of enforcement.

Create an economic system where the states, and their populace, are in competition with each other to attract industry, jobs, residents and even studetns to their colleges. I don't know how to do that, but again, I would find the people who do and empower them to create that system.

A person can make a living being a legislator (local through national) for 10 years. It's only a full-time job at the national level and pays the national average salary.
Maybe then only people who actually care about what they're doing take those jobs.

1. Congress and the POTUS shall immediately be subject to all laws passed by them. No exceptions or exclusions. There shall be no special healthcare, pension, retirement plans for congressional members nor staff. 2. Abolish Dept. of Education; return control of education to states, local districts and parents. Mandatory education on U.S. history, world history, Constitution & BoR every year of school. Abolish any federal education spending. Universities must survive by providing quality education at affordable costs. Annual teacher evaluations. Pay commensurate with performance. Abolish all educational unions.

3. Flat tax of 5% on everything except food. Businesses pay same flat tax. IRS employees have to get real jobs. All former IRS employees must specifically identify themselves as having worked at the IRS. All non-IRS job applicants take priority over former IRS employees. Former IRS employees are eligible for 1/2 welfare benefits for 12 months.

4. Welfare - Should be a helping hand not a way of life. If you are on welfare, you are drug tested weekly; must perform min. 20 hours/week of service, i.e. sweeping streets, picking garbage on roadside, delivering meals to elderly/infirmed. Also must participate in job training/retraining. Maximum of 2 years on welfare.

5. Prisons become prisons. No internet, no cable/satellite TV. Non-violent criminals are placed in work programs to benefit society and to teach job skills. Violent criminals are allowed one (1) appeal within 12 months. If appeal fails, firing squad. Violent criminals caught in the act are executed within 24 hours of arrest. Pedophiles/rapists/drug dealers are executed immediately upon conviction or apprehension in the act.

6. Repeal Obamacare. Imprison every politician that voted for Obamacare for a minimum of 10 years and confiscate all their personal property/holdings. Funds from seizure/sale of said holdings to be used to pay down national debt. Upon release from prison, citizenship is revoked and they are forever exiled from the U.S.

7. Immediately stop ALL foreign aid except to Israel.

8. Ban sales of U.S. military hardware to ALL foreign nations except Israel. Violators to face public execution for treason.

9. Mandatory background checks for retail firearms sales to include checks for mental issues. All other firearms laws to be abolished. No "gun free zones" allowed other than private property at owners discretion.

10. Inform all foreign nations that supply illegal drugs to the U.S. that they have 60 days to stop all drug exports. On day 61 our nearest carrier group, our B-1, B2 and B52 bombers will begin shutting down the drug operations. Collateral damage is not our problem.

11. Immediately recall all U.S. troops from all foreign theaters/bases, place them on our borders. Notify the world that our borders are no longer open to illegals. Illegally attempting to cross our borders results in being shot on sight. We will not render aid to those that may survive.

12. Notify North Korea that any flying object belonging to N.K. that comes with 1,500 miles of any U.S. soil will result in carpet bombing of Pyongyang within 4 hours. Collateral damage is not our problem.

13. Notify Iran that any flying object belonging to Iran that leaves their border will result in carpet bombing of Tehran within 4 hours. Collateral damage is not our problem.

14. U.S. companies that manufacture products in China will have 1 year to move their manufacturing processes back to the U.S. All other foreign manufacturing by U.S. companies will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Unions will not be allowed in ANY company supplying products of any kind to the U.S. government. Cost overruns will NOT be passed on to the government. If a company cannot manage and supply the product at the agreed contract price, the cost will NOT be passed on to the U.S. taxpayers.

This is something I've discussed, pondered, and wanted for some time (Skully might hate a few of these ideas)... Sorry for the length.

1. Economy- Hate to say it, but we have to break that old promise: Welfare- GONE! If individual states want to run a program like that they have to vote on it, and allocate their own funding for it, otherwise, I suggest something like a community outreach or church-run kind of thing. Cut federal spending, meaning some departments are going to go the way of the dinosaur- TSA, DHS, FEMA, and DoE. Rewriting the tax code- no more "punishing" success, perhaps a flat tax is needed, I'm going to suggest somewhere between 5-8%, and EVERYONE pays, no more of this "you make too little so your income isn't taxed" bullshit. If you don't pay you don't play, meaning if you're on some kind of now state run welfare, you are not allowed to vote due to a conflict of interest.

2. Voting- MANDATORY proof of citizenship and voter registration required at the poll. No more giving DL's to those who are not here legally. Want to drive in this country? You must have a driver's license. Visiting from another country? If they don't give you some proof that you're legal to drive then guess what, Champ, you don't drive here. No ifs, ands or butts. Don't have a DL? Get a state issued ID card- I really don't understand how this is hard to do. Pollsters/politicians found guilty of voter fraud, automatic $10,000 fine and 5 years community service MINIMUM (no prison time- they're already too crowded).

3. Foreign aid- GONE! Nuff said on this one. We have too many problems within our own borders to care for others. Once we get our own country back on track maybe then we can consider helping others.

4. The Constitution is the End all Be all of our legal system and form of government. Don't like it, there's the door, don't let it hit you where the good lord split you. Any infringement on any rights outlined in the BOR is considered treason and carries a swift death sentence. NDAA, Patriot Act, any 2A regulations, etc. are hereby gone!

5. Obamacare would see it's life expire as well. [Beer]

6. Border- Actually secure it. And mandatory deportation of any illegals caught; institute the 3-strikes rule, get caught in this country illegally, or illegally crossing the border 3x and any chance you have of legal immigration is immediately denied. Assign NG units to the border with a looser ROE (Armed individuals illegally crossing constitutes hostile intent and can be fired upon). Allocate TSA budget to building better fence and securing the border. Introduce bill that US border residents free from criminal and civil liability if they shoot/kill illegal border crossing trespassers- Trust me, after the first 20 or so are shot dead crossing our lands the rest will soon learn it's maybe not such a good idea.

Eliminate the departments of Education, Agriculture, and HUD entirely. Along with all of HHS except for CDC. (Who would sort of exist, but just to deal with pandemics and not to do bullshit sociological research.)

Eliminate DHS, Fold Customs back into Treasury, FPS back into GSA, INS/BP back into Justice, USCG back into Transportation. BATFE, TSA, and DEA would go away entirely.

Every other department will take sharp cuts. In the end, the Federal government will have a balanced budget requirement and will not be allowed to have multi-year debt. I'm not an isolationist, and I like defense, but fixing our fiscal house will require cuts from DoD as well.

Privatize the USPS (or declare it to be private and independent whether it wants to be, or not)

SS taxpayers would be given the option to opt out: waive all claim to money already paid, and never pay again. Ditto Medicare.

All individual income and capital gains taxes flattened. I'm thinking 15% but I'm not in love with any number that isn't a sharp decrease. Most if not all deductions and credits would be eliminated.

Get the Federal government out of the prohibition business. If some state wants to punch holes in the Fourth Amendment and give a what's basically a price-support subsidy to MS13, that's their problem. They shouldn't be able to drag other states down with them. Federal gun control would also go away.

Pull the plug on the NLRB: labor relations are something for labor and management to work out for themselves. If an employer does not wish to deal with a union, that employer will not be forced by law. I would also end collective bargaining in the Federal government.

An end to every Federal subsidy: TARP, auto bailouts, Section 8, food stamps, etc. And as for banking, it would remain illegal to commit fraud in interstate commerce, but banks could make the loans that they want to make, refuse the loans that they don't, and go broke and out of business if they insist on making negative-equity interest-only mortgages on stated income only.

Oh, and the death penalty for taking the last ice cube out of the freezer and not refilling the ice tray.

Income Tax: Flat tax of 15%, zero deductions or write offs, 10% to federal, 5% to state.

Health Care: All emergency care and preventative care provided free of charge. If you require medication or long term care, you're responsible for seeking insurance or charity.

Social Services/Food Stamps: No cash assistance. No phone assistance. No cable TV or internet assistance. You get public housing or low income rent assistance, heat assistance, and a nutritional protein loaf made from soybeans and vitamins. Food stamps can be used only for milk, eggs, pasta, rice, beans, soap, and toilet paper.

Eliminate unions for all public service employees.

Make all elected political positions unpaid.

Prosecute and imprison politicians who abuse their authority or commit fraud, graft, or corruption.

Repeal all unnecessary laws based upon opinion or religious beliefs.

Make the process for repealing unjust, ill thought, or unworkable laws far easier.

Repeal the GCA of 68.

In my opinion, no on 1.

Employees of companies with government contracts are working to provide a product or service, not receiving welfare or other hand out.

In my scenario, there would be no farm subsidies. Free market. Government stays out of it and is not allowed to manipulate markets.

what about service connected disabled Veterans? I get money... I feel i earned it. for a non military application think about someone going to work, texting on their iphone and falling in their cubicle hitting their head on their cappacino machine. Resulting in them being permanently disabled and getting workmans comp. it is part of the contract. you get hurt, we take care of you.

so, do I get to vote? not that it ever helps anyway...it seems.

I'd say yes- you served your country (as did many of us SCDV folks) and during that term where you were technically "The property of the Department of Defense" on orders, you were injured- you're not a lazy you-know-what that just wants to sit around and not get a job. In a manner of speaking you had no choice in the matter... jobless idiots who refuse to better their lives by choice are a completely different category of "receiving checks from the .gov."

I don’t think it can be fixed as a single nation where the political philosophies of socialism and capitalism based on individual liberty are mutually exclusive. The only thing that can fix it is de-federalization with all the power and money returned back to the states. The federal government should not be involved in anything that doesn’t involve defense, international trade, and interstate commerce….you know, actually follow the articles of the constitution. People need to be free to associate with others of their choice in political systems that reflect their core values, which were once done state by state. The migration and intermixing of people destroyed this natural balance. Forcing everybody from all communities of interest to do the same thing is idiocy. I really don’t care if California and New York surrender their freedoms or not as long as they don’t force me to do the same.
