Most mags post 94 ban are dated. Or so I thought...
The C-Products mags I ordered don't appear to have a date on them. Nor do my AR Stoner 6.8 SPC mags.
Pardon my ignorance but is there actually a clause saying mags have to be dated or is this just to avoid potential problems?
Avoid issues, they have to be stamped if they are produced in CO ...Assuming this bullshit passes.
Stippling is a beautiful thing. [Coffee]
I still have some of my "re-allocated" GI mags from the early 90's... I fairly confident there is no stamp on them, but I dare someone to prove they aren't that old.
My saiga 12 mags, xd mags, glock mags, some ar mags, ak mags,, m1a mags, are all not date stamped.
Ill take a picture next to a current Denver post paper with a dog shit on it to prove it.
None of my DPMS mags have date stamps. All of my D&H mags do.
TAPCO AK mags have that little round number Month and Year crap on them.
So, if/when this shit goes in effect, the idea of buying Pmags in a free State and shipping them home goes out the window. Any workaround ideas ? How zealous is LE going to be to enforce this crap ? Instead of "papers please", will you stress the dreaded "lemme see your datestamp please" ? This is getting absolutely absurd. In what scenario are you going to draw that level of investigation, at the Range ? I know for sure I won't be calling my Rep a N****R C**T and telling her I'm coming for her, but these questions just crank my paranoia up...
CO or any other state cannot compel a manufacturer in another state to put date stamps on magazines. Maybe they should just stop doing it?
My FN brand SCAR 16s mags ARE date stamped it appears. Month and year at least. I believe they work in the AR but haven't tried them personally.
Also I was told 416 mags are dated as well.
My few tapco mags are dated.
Nothing requires manufacturers to date their mags. You could haul in a thousand on them after the date and they couldn't say shit unless they could prove it. Then it brings up the point in having a thousand mags...you would normally buy that many to distribute among other freedom loving individuals...npbut they have that base covered in the current bill. Mso you will either become a criminal on the black market or own a thousand mags that they can't prove when you owned them
"... but they have that base covered in the current bill. so you will either become a criminal on the black market or own a thousand mags that they can't prove when you owned them. "
And theres the rub... whenever I chase that rabbit down the hole of non-compliance I come back to the ultimate threat of losing the right to even own a gun because now I'm a criminal for having a simple magazine. What a CROCK OF SHIT ! I suppose post dated mags can become safe queens for when SHTF, or for shooting out of state, or hope it all goes away after 2014 when the Dems take an ass-kicking because of this overreach.
All of my Lancer mags have the Julian date stamp (If I remember correctly, that's what its called)
The "Take a Picture with a Newspaper" method does not easily prove something is old; it is used mainly to prove something is new.
In the mag case we'd like to prove is was old ....or owned prior to 01JUL13.
I could take a picture of a mag with today's newspaper (01MAR13), and save the newspaper.
On 02JUL13 I could give that mag to "Joe" and have Joe take a picture with the saved newspaper from 01MAR13.
One could not tell the difference in date of ownership using the two pictures, if they looked at the two pictures on 03JUL13.
Since non-dated/non-serialized mags are indistinguishable, one could also not tell if it was the same mag in the early picture as in the later picture.
It is a good thing the "burden of proof" of violation rests on the prosecution, per 13-1224.
I ground off any date stamps on the thousands of magazines i own 6 month ago, prove i didn't.
Depending on where you are at time of contact only 2 sheriffs have said they will enforce any new gun laws.
The next issue is whether or not you decide to hand anything over to anyone. Myself, unless it's a weld cty sheriff or ATF agent, it's no compliance. Ken Buck is weld cty DA. He isn't going to prosecute, according to him.
In Larimer cty Sheriff Smith spent numerous time in front of the legislature, explaining how ineffective and pointless the proposed laws are. No one listened, no one cares. It's all about the anti gun agenda. They are empowered by O's re-election and know they need to move fast, the clock is ticking.
most usgi mags have a date on them , well i have not found a 30 rounder without a date
Anyone else want to grind a corn ridden turd into a libtards open mouth?
*getting the visual on that now*
New 30 aluminum mags I received this week have no date on them. First ones I've seen without a date. C-Products.
what about ps90 mags? One of those have been on my range toy list for a while.
various handgun mags? (luckily most of those are 15 or under. hmmm, wonder why the limit was bumped to 15...) :)
My 9mm S&W Sigma has 16 round standard mags...
But are handgun mags date stamped?
Yeah, but do you really want to go to court just to make that point?
That said, I don't think the date stamp issue is quite as big of a deal as the transfer of possession. If you go to the range with some friends, and loan your buddy your Glock 17 with the standard capacity magazine in it, you've just committed a crime.
If you leave a magazine out on the coffee table, and your wife picks it up to move it into your man cave, she's just committed a crime.
If you take your gun to a gunsmith to have some work done, and leave a magazine with him in order to function-test the firearm, it's a crime.
Heck, there's even an interesting point brought up by another state senator where he pointed out that the law doesn't just prohibit magazines, but guns capable of being readily converted to take "high capacity" magazines, which means that, per the law, it would be illegal to own a Remington 870 in the stock hunting configuration, because you can easily convert them to "high capacity" by putting a magazine tube extension on them.
Source for the last claim:

yeah that "readily converted" weasel language could be used to ban pretty much anything. most any mag can be extended with a bit of sheet metal and a spot welder. It is in direct opposition to the permanently reduced language.
It'll come down to the courts to decide the line between readily converted and manufactured. They'll also get to define whether that shotgun mentioned above can be readily converted if you don't have the extension tube. (should it pass)
Gah it is the NFA conflicting rulings all over again isn't it, constructive possession of a magazine extension.
I have a pile of new BX-25 ruger 10/22 magazines and none have dates, at least on the outside.
My H&K 91 mags have dates on them. Most dated before I was born.
