Has anybody been there since the ownership changed? Can anybody AFFORD to go?!
Seems like the price to get in now is $13 for an adult! Thats quite a hike from the $7 last time I was there...
Are there any remotely affordable rifle ranges around here anymore? Or am I just gonna have to drive out past E-470 and keep my muzzle pointed NE?
I have not been there based on the prices i have seen. If i remember, that 13 bucks was for an hour of shooting pistol, and it was about 20 or so for rifle! thats absolutley rediculous! I like to go out, take my time, and enjoy myself, not feel rushed like I need to get this last 150 rounds off in the next 8 minutes!!!

Are you thinking of Green Mountain? FSC is the one at Cherry Creek Resevoir...its $13 to get into the range, plus $14 to get into the park...range entry allows you both sides last time I was there, though...Quote:

I had thought about getting a pass since I was going to be home all summer, but ended up not doing it because I was working too many days (yet seemingly never got full time hours!)
I've been going there since January and it's been $13 range fee ? I have a parks pass any way so that wasn't a big deal to me. When did the ownership change ? It's been owned by Doug Hamilton for quite a few years.
edit-just talked to them-no recent changes have been made ?
I think you may be confusing the change of ownership of the old K-2 facility.

Last time I went there the cashier freaked on me.
I had my MAK-90 and 75 round drums (as well as a number of other guns). I set them down on the counter and he loudly asked "What's that!?!" I look behind me as he obviously can't be speaking to me. As I am trying to figure out what he is referring to he again announces to the entire store "WHAT'S THAT!?!". I look to him to see what he is talking about to find him pointing at my equipment. I smile at him (while thinking to myself that he can't have an issue with my firearms as this is a shooting range) and state that it is a MAK-90. He says "NO, THAT!" while pointing at the drum. I say "a 75 round drum". He then states that they arn't allowed. That nothing with more than 5 rounds is allowed and that the drums have to be taken back to the car. If I hadn't been there to shoot with friends and they were already inside I would have packed up and left there and then.
You have rules, great. But you don't have to announce it to the store full of people like I am a terrorist or something.
This was a number of years ago and I won't be back.
When was that? Ive seen guys with drums and hi-cap mags all the time when I was going there...the best cashier is the older gentleman (cant remember his name or find his card) but he works at Gander Mountain when he wasnt at the range...
I went there on the 19th and it was $8 to get in the park and $13 to shoot.
self righteous "gun owners" are the largest threat to our rights as a whole. They're basically liberals with guns.

A couple guys at the Firing Line had said a few weeks ago the owners had sold the place to someone else...

Having said that I do find the overly safe attitude annoying, but I guess it's better than someone getting shot. Stu seems to run the range pretty well. I can say the recent owners and staff are allot better than the old. Prices are crap though. Then again they are in business to make money. And I'm sure the insurance is pretty high after that girl went in, rented a pistol and shot her self in the head a few years back. They have a reputation for anti- Title 2. I know they won't let you shoot MGs and I know a C2 SOT that was shown the door for shooting a semi-auto suppressed 22 rifle.

Hmmm I don't think theres any local public ranges that let you shoot MG's.
Yeah seems like if you CAN afford to shoot an MG, then you'd have to wait until one of the shoots comes up, or go do some Shock & Awe on the prarie dogs...
I shoot MGs at Silver Bullet all the time.
Funny thing is their rules state no full auto.
I've cleared it with the owner and once in awhile they get a new counter person that has to make the phone call.
I was asked not to shoot Wolf ammo. They don't like having to separate the steel cases.
What does "C2 SOT" mean?
I ride my bike through Cherry Creek State Park sometimes and have stopped by the range (while holding my ears because I didn't bring protection) to check it out and see what people are shooting. I have yet to shoot there. I wish there was a way to get my rifle there on my bike, but with that case rule they have it could be difficult. You can get into the park for free on foot on riding a bicycle. ;-)

A C2 SOT is an abbreviation for a Class 2 Special Occupational Taxpayer. This is a person who in addition to holding a manufacturer's FFL (Federal Firearms License) has paid the additional taxes to engage in dealing and manufacturing Title 2 weapons such as machineguns, silencers, short rifles and shotguns and guns classified as AOWs. A C2 SOT normally would have a Type 07 FFL for the previously listed Title 2 weapons.
If the person is manufacturing destructive devices (also Title 2 weapons) then they would have a Class 2 SOT + a type 10 FFL. This allows them to manufacture high explosive rounds, grenade launchers, and other heavy duty boom-boom weapons.

I've shot my MG's and cans at Family Shooting Center. No big deal, just can't do mag dumps, they want you to keep it to no more than three round burst. They couldn't careless about my cans.

Every time I've been there RO's instructions have been 1 second between rounds.
