Zaycon foods

Have you heard of Zaycon Foods? They're terrific, have high-quality meat and at great prices. You buy in bulk, choose where you want to pick it up and then when it's delivery (in a church parking lot, off a truck) time, you pick it up.

i know it sounds sketchy, but it's legit, and the meat is fantastic. This month's delivery: Skinless, boneless, chicken breasts, $1.79 a pound.

"I thought I was just buying it off the back of a truck, but they made me buy the truck too."

I'm still working through last spring's bacon order. Thirty pounds in a package is a LOT of bacon.

I am going to freeze some of it and can the rest. I'm REALLY excited about it. How does their bacon compare with bacon from grocery stores or Sam's Club or Costco?

Okay, I am truly impressed.

I didn't even have to get out of my Jeep to pick up my order- they checked my name against their list and lay plastic down and then the 40-pound heavily waxed box of chicken breasts was set on that plastic, easy as pie.

These are the Dolly Partons of chickendom; the butterflied breasts are HUGE. I was able to put one butterflied chicken breast per quart freezer bag; there was no room for anything else.

I have not tasted them yet, but they looked far more healthy than what they sell in the grocery stores.

My family bought the chicken a few times now and it is quite good and is much larger than chicken in the grocery store.

I highly recommend it.

I don't eat chicken. It's toxic poison. Last few times I've eating chicken (about 3 times in the past 20 years) I have had either mild intestinal discomfort to full blown projectile vomiting and diarrhea. And I was eating the same chicken those around me were eating and they did not get ill.

My body just got smart and concluded that red meat is best.

I do still cook chicken for the wife & kids, but in a few months the kids will be off to college.

I'm sorry to hear that, losttrail! I wonder what it is about the chicken you were eating that caused your stomach upset?

Have you tried organic chicken? I wonder if you are sensitive to some of the hormones they may have used in processing the meat?

Bringing this back up. Picked up my chicken this morning. What a easy process, drive up, pop the trunk and off you go.

Chicken looks good and clean. Going to can most of it but I'll report back once I've tried some.

Anyone tried these people? They seem to have ok deals for meats and some produce, but it sounds weird buying meat from the back of a truck. My wife found them and forwarded it to me and I was thinking about getting some chicken wings on their next Aurora chicken day. Just trying to see if they are ok to deal with and if the food is safe and/or good to eat. They are sold out of ribs for all of their listed dates, I wanted to try those too.

We've tried the 93/7 beef and chicken so far. Both tasted excellent and the price is right. 👍

I did a search and didn't see a previous post. Guess I'll order up some wings and try them out then. Warmer weather means outdoor cooking, so a large batch of smoked wings sounds good. I hope they have ribs and bacon in stock again soon.

Thinking about placing an order, the 2 things I'd be interested in are chicken breasts and hamburger. Looking at all the locations around here I don't see either of those products listed at all for any of the upcoming dates.

That's weird. They're killing plenty of chickens for the thighs and wings, you'd think there would be some breasts attached to those.

They all had followed Angelina's lead [ROFL2]

They had never done a dark meat sale before so a few months bacj they sent out notice saying that getting enought quaility breasts was proving difficut and asked for interest in a dark meat sale. They got an overwhemlming response and went with it.

The breasts you get are huge. I mean monsters. Very clean and tasty.

I love big breasts.

Yup, all over the internet: Zaycon's gone 'for now'. We were able to pick up our chicken order on Monday, but I received a text & email that our October delivery had been cancelled. That's what made me start looking around at 'why'... The rest, as they say, is now history.

Called my CC/Bank and they're working on cancelling the charge for the October order. I've heard from folks that they didn't ever receive their latest order(s). Last few deliveries had been postponed/delayed quite a bit. Rumors say that the former CEO has sued the company.

Supposedly an employee at the company, who is a family member of a blogger, states that after yesterday's open conf. call with Zaycon's legal team, they're not allowed to say anything publicly, "as of yet, but news will be forthcoming with details".

Hate to see 'em go...

I ordered from them a few times. But I have been able to find a better selection with often better prices at local wholesale stores.

Restaurant Depot, Shamrock Foods, Costco Business Center. Costco Business Center sells what seem to me the very same cases of chicken breasts. And I can buy them like normal food while not feeling like I'm buying stolen speakers out of some tweakers trunk in a random, out of my way, church parking lot.

No major loss. Hope you all get refunds.

Zaycon went corporate, and was plagued by issues. :(

Ok. I just saw this. I know it's an old thread but can't let this go. Hormone use in poultry production was banned in the United States in the 1950s. Not sure how they would use hormones to process the meat but anyway

Hard to beat Shamrock's deal of the week..... provided your freezer is ample enough to handle it.

Okay, I've never dealt with Shamrock, but the website looks quite impressive! How do they compare to Sam's and Costco as far as quality of foodstuffs and cost?

Cheaper than Sam's in many cases.

Sam's chicken breasts are usually $2/lb, I get them from shamrock at just above $1per pound (up to 1.50). You do have to buy the 40lb box though.

80/20 ground beef is right around $2/lb in a 10lb log.

Shamrock / Food Warehouse is where we go for our briskets, pork shoulders and chicken.

Sign up for the email notifications. New specials every week (I think weekly?). Like any store, there is the deal to get you in and they make it up on the other stuff you buy. It is a restaurant supply store, so some of the stuff is pretty healthily priced. The one near me has a couple cold cases for stuff that is either on the way to spoiled or a little freezer burned, or whatever. You can score some pretty good deals.

Keep in mind... restaurant supply. A box of chicken thighs is like 50lb and frozen. It is cheap but you will spend time thawing it enough to bust apart and repack in more reasonable sizes. Not everything is frozen, but keep it in mind when you are looking at the price... how much of a headache and I buying?

I usually stop in when the week deal is something I need and check the sale cases when I am there. The deals rotate, so if you eat a lot of something, it comes back around reasonably often. I run two deep freezes because i also buy beef by half cow and pork by the pig from other sources. Why you ask? Teenage boys.

Ours is the home that feeds several bachelors (and TDY married folks, pining for home-cooked meals) many times a month. IN addition, I've decided to begin raw-feeding our numerous cats, which requires a large amount of chicken thighs and breasts.

I live kinda remote, shopping isn't convenient. I get my store veggies on a lunch hour here and there, but bulk shopping happens about once a month. Pretty normal to fill the truck bed. I have had comments many times in Sams or other places about feeding armies or something. Been a dad for a long time and be down to one son in about a year. Gonna be weird not having to haul food so much in a few years.
