So, before too long I will be pulling the piece of crap Hogue stock off my Remington 700 and putting something a little nicer on it. I have no idea what I should get. I can't afford a $1000 stock so the AICS is out of the question. Not sure if something by McMillan or Bell and Carlson is what I want or if I should just get an HS Precision or something?
Thoughts and pictures and ideas are more than welcome.

I've seen AIC's 1.5 chassis go between $700 to $800 on snipershide from time to time.
I have no other experience with any other stocks, sorry...
The advantage to the AICS system is you don't have to bed it, it comes with a DBM already installed, and you can get either fixed or folder. They also have an adjustable cheekpiece and length of pull (via spacers). Do some math compared to a similarly equipped Manners or McMillan and it works out to be a better deal. Buy once, cry once.

The chassis from Mcrees Precision has the benefits mentioned by NGCSUGrad09 upthread and is far less than $1000. Scott Mcree, the owner, is VERY accessible and a hell of a nice guy. Reviews over at Snipershide are all quite positive about these chassis.

Stock fit is critical to achieving that neutral position on the rifle that gives consistent results. The newer you are to precision shooting, the more critical it is. Whatever you do, do something that is adjustable for cheek height and length of pull at a minimum. Better still, the cheek piece should be adjustable left to right. This allows you to get you head more on the centerline of the rifle, reducing the amount of outward torque generated by your cheek weld that must be countered by your shoulder or right hand. All those competing forces add up to a non-neutral hold on the gun, and that leads to variability. If often shows up as a wandering zero.
A detachable box magazine is relatively unimportant for the local comps. I single feed every round anyway.
Find the most adjustable stock you can afford. Bed it yourself if it needs it. It's easy.
I'll vote for the AICS, but I understand it may not be possible due to budget.
The McCrees look to be in my price range. I'll have to check them out tonight when I can get to a computer.

I would say , get behind every stock you can . Going off of recommendations will only tell you what is quality or not . I started with an AICS , and just couldn't get it to work for me . Little guy , and could never get comfortable and repeatable cheek . Almost sold it , and then someone recommended a different set of skins . Put the Vipers on the AICS , and they changed the whole chassis for me . Couldn't be happier .
Lots of good options out there , and try to get with some of us to see what gives you comfort and most of all repeatability .

I am happy wil my B & C medalist. Pretty adjustable and a pretty good fit. It could probably use some bedding but it seems to hold well. I had to sand down the barrel cahnnel a bit to float the barrel and take a little out of the bolt notch.

Here is a cheaper bottom metal with a detach mag. Drop in fit (almost on the B & C stocks). Works for my needs but is not a badger)

No it doesn't. But it is a drop in fit for the B&C stocks with a little tweaking. Most bdm's need to have the stock inletted to fit.Quote:
