Australian style confiscation wont work here because it violates the 2nd, 4th and 5th amendments. Even people who don't care for the 2nd will still support the others.

Agreed. But I think there's another very important reason it won't work here.

I'm on my phone right now and don't care to find it but there is data beyond 2007. The murder rate in Australia has declined sharply since 2007 but the cause has long been up for debate. Prior to the gun buy back gun crime was declining substantially in Australia, after the buy back there was an upswing followed by a decline. Those who are for the ban say the decline is due to the buy back, those who oppose the ban say the decline was already occurring and the buy back had nothing to do with it.

The reality is that thanks to technology murders are on the decline everywhere. 20 years ago you could kill someone in broad daylight and get away with it. Today there's a good chance you'll get busted for killing someone in the middle of the night in a very remote place thanks to cell phones and surveillance technology. Technology will continue to improve and murder rates will continue to decline. If someone knows they are not going to get away with murder they are a lot less likely to commit murder than if they knew they would get away with it.

As far as a revolution goes... There will be no Revolution in this country. People have it to good in this country, even the poorest of the poor have big screen tv's xboxes and obamaphones. The only way you'll see a revolt is if the government takes away the titty they are feeding the poor with and I don't see that happening anytime soon since those people are quickly becoming the majority of the American voter base and they will continue to vote for the candidate that will give them the most stuff.

Why did their crime rates decline? I know it is a touchy subject but something to consider. Like the USA Australia decriminalized abortion in the early 1970s.

Are you saying black people are more likely to commit crime?

Interesting. You'd think the government would show the statistics on their own website. I wonder why they don't?

Isn't that typical par for the course though? Look at the UK... they love to point out that gun related murder is down since enacting some of the most strict gun control laws in the EU, but they always leave out the fact that violent crime is the highest of the entirety of the EU, so much so that it's considered the most crime ridden nation in Europe. Of course don't use Chicago as a more local example, that would take all the air out of their argument.
