I know the former maintenance guy for their head quarters. Thus guy refused to give them blood and the old man had a 2 gallon card from red cross. From his home state where they knew him by name every time he came in.. They rent 2 floors of the clock tower building. 1 floor is vacant 99% of the time because its meeting rooms
Most if not all the people that work there are related to the founder. They all have company provided vehicles and high salaries. The vehicles included 2 Mercedes. They charge $65 a pint for blood to cover expenses last I knew.

Red cross doesn't take blood in co. They gave up a couple of states to bonfils in return for no competition in other states.

The only way around all this is a directed donation where you say this blood is for "john Smith" and they don't charge the recipients account. I was working on a charity to email names for directed donations but I lack the computer knowledge

What is your blood type? Talk to your doctor about a partial liver transplant? I don't know much, but I believe that I heard that a living donor can give part of their liver to a recipient.

I just went through 2 days of classes and testing. One good thing is I'm AB- which allows me to get a liver from anyone. Bad thing is they give out livers based on blood type and only about .6% of people have AB- blood. I'm a really big guy and the live donor liver must be the same size so it will be tough to find one. So basically if I don't get an AB- liver I will have to get really sick to leap over the other blood types.

I'm not in a hurry to die and I doubt that my organs will be worth anything by then, but I give Bonfils their pint of B-neg every two months. Amazingly, they haven't gotten irritated with my "I dunno, I don't think I'm all the way up to 110 pounds" or "Screw it, can we just go for a quart?" jokes that I've been beating to death for years.

I think it was a "yet another charity spending too much on admin salaries" story.

To be fair, that's one of the things that ground my gears a bit about the Red Cross, even if that's not why I eventually stopped volunteering.
