I neglected to say "Colorado legislation." That is what I was talkiing about.

You'll note that I did not in any way state that I thought the battle for gun legislation was over; rather, I was remarking upon how quickly the forum members tend to turn upon each other like a bucket of crabs when we don't have the unifying force of local lawmakers to fight.

Frankly, watching this anti-cop sentiment sweep through this forum makes me wonder when it will end. Who's next in front of the armchair firing squad? Military members? Security guards? Any member in a uniformed authoritarian position? Goverment workers?

There is already hate and discontent toward "Government Workers" here. Be it City, County, State or Federal.

I dont think it is a hate towards gov as much as it is discontent with the corruption that comes along with more and endless gov.

It takes a hell of a person to want to be a cop. Dealing with the worst 10 percent of society day in and day out. It's just a matter of time before one is put in the impossible position to take a life with only seconds to think about what's right and wrong. He only knows what went down to cause this to happen and now a lot of pain will be felt on all effected. No one here can say they would have handled it differently, because none of us were there.

Girlscouts? Hmmm, I don't know... I think it's kinda dangerous to teach young girls self esteem and leadership skills.

Once again, the membership doesn't disappoint. Happens like clockwork any time an incident like this happens.
As my sense of sarcasm is lost on you, let me put this in simple terms; it was directed at the OP. Read again in case you missed it.

It is not for us to judge the circumstances of what happened, because we we not there and do not know the full details; but it is automatically assumed its a "poor cop" (at least as I read the OP).

As some have already noted; I have witnessed too many times that people have jumped on the "bash cops" bandwagon (revert back to my trolling comment). We must have an abundance of LE/SOF members, because the AAR's just pile in after 10 minutes of a news report.

In my opinion, the loss of the life of the girl is paramount right now. And the only true person to blame is the fuckhead who started this mess...

    +1

This officer had mere fractions of a second to analyze, decide, and execute.

Had the officer fired and hit the victim (exactly what occurred) - he's demonized by all
Had the officer fired and missed the victim, but hit the criminal - he's a hero
Had the officer fired and missed everyone - he's demonized by all
Had the officer withdrawn and the criminal killed the girl (and possibly the other twin in the home) - he's demonized by all
Had the officer withdrawn and no victims were killed, but the criminal later was - he's demonized by the left
Had the officer withdrawn and everyone survived, but the criminal got away - he's demonized by all
Had the officer withdrawn and everyone survived, and the criminal was captured - everyone's happy, no one is demonized or deemed a hero.

Remember, the officer had fractions of a second to determine how to respond. He had to rely on his training and best judgement of the situation in an instant. While the result is extremely regrettable and tragic, armchair quarterbacking it in the safety of our homes with all the time in the world isn't fair to anyone who was involved. I can, in no way, have any idea how I might have responded.

In the end, two lives were lost and many others are destroyed. All we can fairly do is hope and pray that those who survived and are impacted by this can do so with some degree of compassion from those of us looking in from the outside.

Every bullet one sends down range has a lawyer behind it...

It's unfortunate that this cop was placed in a position where an error on his part resulted in an innocent person's life being lost. I'm 100% certain that he would do anything to take that particular bullet back. The criminal responsible for creating the situation is beyond the ability of the law to be held responsible, and only after all the facts are in will we know if the officer acted in an appropriate manner.
