You are going to have the difference between the end of the 40 case and the end of the 10mm chamber that will foul and lead up. Worst case it will shave some of the 40 projectile on the crisp edge which is the end of the 10mm chamber. Do it enough or that one round that is "just right" and it can cause a pressure spike which is on the list of bad things.
Not to mention the erosion on the 10mm throat.
Where the worst potential for an issue is when NumbNut loads a 10mm unwittingly and pulls the trigger. Now that round is crowded into the chamber along with all of the fouling etc.
Pressure spike.

Again, only a stupid ass would do such.

I would have thought the 10mm recoil spring would be too stiff to cycle a .40.

Next, I want to see .357 Sig in a .40.
Then, a .380 in a 9mm.

Most factory 40 ammo is hotter then most factory 10mm. I load 10/40 the same, I down load them for competition, functions fine in a Glock 29/20.

Maybe he was inspired by the ability to fire .40 in a 10mm revolver with moon clips, without understanding the role that the moon clips serve. Similarly, it is possible to do the same thing with .380 in a 9mm revolver with moon clips, as the headspace is now controlled by the moon clip in the extractor groove, rather than the case mouth in the chamber...

I think reloads headspace on the extractor more than people realize, but a .45 case that's a few thousandths short vs a case that's .142" short is a pretty big difference.

Just because you can doesn't mean you should.
