Advice on what to buy with xmas bonus

I got my late xmas bonus and am looking to buy something new. I really want the p229 Dark Elite .40, but I already have a carry, and a few other handguns (none in .40). I also need a hunting rifle (rem 700) but I wont have enough to buy a decent optic. I also only have an O/U shotgun, and I've been eying the Magpul 870 for quite awhile. What do you all think?

Which one would you use more initially? The hunting rifle is great but if you have no optics for it, what fun is it? How long until you could get optics? Handguns are fun to have but if you don't have any in that caliber already, that means buying ammo for yet another caliber, which can be a PITA. Shotguns are fun but what's the intention for it? Home defense? If so, I'd say grab the shotgun. Seems to have the most immediate benefit for you. If it's just to "get another shotgun" and it'll sit in the safe, then I'd lean towards the .40.

I voted for the 870 but would have gone for a Mossberg 590 if it was an option.

It would be a few months to get a decent optic. I am going to take my hunters safety here soon, but ive never been hunting so I dont know when I would actually get out. The shotgun would be just another gun, but it would probably stay in the bedroom. The sig would atleast get used for a carry.
