FWIW the Tacoma has been the same truck since 2005 also. The 3rd gen trucks came out a couple of years ago but it was basically minor cosmetic changes to the hood, grill & headlights plus a couple interior changes. Same truck otherwise. The aftermarket support for the Nissan isn't anywhere near as good as it is for the Toyota. You may have options but the Tacoma has options on top of options within each category and each one is a viable option. Not saying you can't get some good stuff for your truck because you can but you stated it was just like the Toyota and it's not. Just par for the course based on units sold though.

I wasnt really trying to compare to toyota, more so to the other car based rigs out there. The wife wanted a new cherokee but I dont want all the electronics and the fact that it is completely new this year and has tranny issues. The only thing toyota has over nissan is for the stupid "for looks" crap. If you are talking serious wheeler you can build a nissan just as good as a toyota. The frontier and xterra have essentially the same frame as the titan. Actually a popular swap is the titan front diff and suspension. Gets you four inches or so of lift and a lot more travel, and it bolts on. Even a few people working on bolting in the titan v8. so far they found it needs a few plugs rewired and it will basically bolt in also.

Toyota haws been living off their reputation for years and you pay handsomely for it. Whether or not is is worth it is up to you.

p.s. I also own a toyota tacoma. Its a 3.4 motor one and I liked it fine. Its actually for sale, if you know anyone who wants a 2000 with 110,000 miles.

No, it's not just for 'stupid looks crap' where the Tacoma surpasses the Frontier in aftermarket support. You say the Nissan has just as much aftermarket support as the Tacoma and then go on to detail how most will source OEM Titan parts for a lift... how do you suppose that came to be? Out of necessity. In the end you still have an OEM suspension it's just an OEM suspension made for a larger truck which also has it's inherent downsides on that truck and adds even more downside when adding it to a truck it wasn't designed for. Just like people earlier were saying spacers are fine for a lift on a Nissan. Spacers are NEVER an ideal solution for a truck lift and are used purely for aesthetics on a budget at the sacrifice of your suspension geometry and reliability. These are all compromises that are made out of requirement when the aftermarket support isn't there. Meanwhile there are dozens of options for lifting a Tacoma (for instance) at various heights and each one was designed FOR the truck and not only lifts it to look better but also is designed FOR the Tacoma to make it handle better both on and off road. You can't deny that the aftermarket support for the Tacoma for just about ANYTHING you could want to do is infinitely better than the Frontier... although it seems that's exactly what you're saying.

Yes, you generally do pay handsomely for the best. The challengers to the throne can be generally be had for larger bargains because that's all you have to sell when you're not the best.... 'we're cheaper!'

I just saw a new "Chrysler Jeep", dunno if it's a new Cherokee or what, but it was horrifically umblefugly. Had one of the ugliest rear ends since the Pontiac Aztec. I'd rather become a proctologist and stare at ass all day than drive that thing. Or even be the car behind it.

Define 'last' as in year and model. I think if any criticism of Toyota the one that they don't update their vehicles design of features as often as the other manufacturers holds the most weight so I'm interested to see what generation & model you think was such a drastic change that it elicited such a response.

ETA: Jer is 100% correct... aftermarket for Toyota far surpasses Nissan, just get on carid.com or autoanything.com and search for any exterior things, the Tacoma has custom bumpers, Nissan doesn't; Toyota has way more grille guards than Nissan... but I'm fine with this, I'm probably not going to go too crazy on mine, short of a grille guard and maybe a billet grill, and still undecided if I want step rails.

I'm sorry but you are just wrong on this, not my opinion, but fact. Toyota has far more aftermarket support for the Tacoma than Nissan has for the Frontier/Xterra.

Okay, Tacoma. FYI, the 2nd gen Tacoma started in 2005 and basically exists today. The picture you posted is of what they call the 3rd gen Tacoma that started in 2012-current and basically is cosmetic changes over the previous generation. For example, this is the front end of the OffRoad Tacoma from the 2nd generation:



As you can see, there's not too much difference really. The Sport package has a scooped hood, color keyed grill surround, door handles, side mirrors and rear bumper but visually they're the same otherwise. I also disliked a lot of this styling so on my Off Road Tacoma I opted to change a few things and think it looks better than the factory design.



The mods I did were pretty basic and not really flashy. Kind of my version of what I think the truck should look like from the factory. I also wasn't entirely sold on the factory look but I knew that it was relatively easy to correct to suit my taste. Curious what about it you think looks bad.

I'm not a fan of what Toyota is doing with their truck headlights and taillights. They awkwardly protrude like they came from something else and were just bolted on the vehicle.
