Careers tarnished? They're going to wish it was limited to that when this is all said and done. Look at Wilson's fate, and he all that evidence to justify force (self defense). Here you have the leadership, via the attorney, saying they had no reason to arrest and knowingly committed acts that lead to his demise without justification.

If gray was still kicking and wailing, I wouldn't want to get kicked in the face strapping him down either. I know he was a national treasure and all but not worth losing two front teeth.

    So.....
When it is the cop getting off...... We don't know all the details and exigent circumstances.
When an independent report comes in and the cops are held accountable so they get their day in court (more than what Fred got)...... Cops threaten to quit...... Don't know why anybody would be a cop....System is rigged with corrupt DA....he was already hurt Etc.

and you guys wonder why people don't trust cops. For anybody threatening to quit...... You should. You are the problem. If you were on the good cops side, you would be saying the process worked. The thin-blue-line has to be dismanteled. Protect and Serve does not mean "protect your own" and "serve yourself to whatever treatment of those under you seems fine at the time". At least some of those "cops" were the only THUGs in this whole debacle.

This was simple from the start. Man is in protective custody.... ANYTHING that happens to him after that is a cops fault since you have removed that persons abilty to act on their own by design. Much less the FACT that this has already been declared a bad stop due to no probable cause.

BTW: I am not pointing to the guilt or innocence of any of them. I don't know that yet and it is up to a jury but at least these cops will see a jury. Somebody messed up though.

Does it matter if the stop was bad to start with?

Arrest warrants were issued today. That is a long way from a trial or a conviction.

I predict one or two of these cases will never go to trial, for several reasons.

Not everything that happens to a person while in police custody is the responsibility of the officers.

If you are not prepared to do the right thing and take responsibility for your actions, law enforcement is probably a bad career choice.

most likely they won't find them guilty on the worst charges, there just doesn't seem to be evidence, yet, that they acted with malice. possibly negligence, and they will likely get something for that, but i wouldn't guess much more.

Baltimore will burn just like LA did.. only this time it'll be planned through social media and outside influence.

Doing the right thing is never as easy as some people would have you believe.

For one thing, not everyone agrees on what the right thing in any given situation is the same thing. Even the clear letter of the law is not as clear as some would have you believe. If the law was clear, lawyers and judges would rarely be needed. Terms like "common sense," "reasonable person standard," and "greater good" are subject to nuance and interpretation. Sometimes things really do come down to trying to figure out what the meaning of the word "is" is, in the context with which it is used.

I am glad the standard of the profession is not perfection. It is hard enough on my ego knowing how often I get it wrong on a daily basis.

    Be safe.
