depending on how things go please remember this guy may be innocent in the whole deal and could have bought them off a guy who said his bike broke down or other excuse and had no idea they were stolen or he was buying stolen property.
if he knew or he stole them then by all means burn him to the ground. I just know if some guy showed up and said I stole his stuff or he was taking it back I'd be pretty upset if I was innocent in the whole situation.

OP can just be honest about it and say "Hey, my bike with those fairings was stolen, can you tell me where you got them so I can ask about it?" Creating another lead and following up on it.

Direct approach rarely works in investigations. Honest people don't want to get mixed up with your shit, and dishonest people are definitely not going to help you. If you want to go direct, start fishing first.

"Man, I've always kind of wanted plastics like that. That is sick. Where do you get something like that? I have a 83' at home, kind of thinking of a second one, but I'd like to make them match. Did you order those online or something?"

Then, feel out their reactions. If they identify a prior seller, then you can come clean, show them a picture of your old bike... etc. etc. If they are dishonest you can root it out - e.g. they claim they order it online, etc.

Pretty much sums it up.
