    I'm joining the fray. I've been overweight for at least 35 years (since before high school) , had a mild stroke a few years ago, learned to walk again, and now I'm finally making the lifestyle changes I need.

    I decided not to "diet" but change the way I eat - permanently. I decided to follow a strict Keto program (with one cheat meal per week) until I'm at my goal weight and the follow a loose one from that point to maintain it.

    In the first week and a half, I've lost 12.3 pounds. That's like throwing a suitcase off the deck of the Titanic, but we all have to start somewhere. I would have to lose another 117 pounds to hit my "ideal" weight. I'll hit my personal goal if I lose another 97.

    The good news for the rest of the world is there might finally be enough pasta for everybody to enjoy.

    Right now I'm doing 30 minutes of cardio 3 times a week, but I am slowly going to increase that to more cardio, and then eventually a full program to include weight training and full-body exercise. One hurdle at a time.

    Great job! May I suggest you stop the cheat day? It will throw you out of ketosis, and it takes a few days to get back into it, so you're undoing all that hard work.

    I understand about being all gung-ho, but you may need to take things a tiny bit at a time. If you stop your cheat day, be sure to salt your food and watch your potssium and magnesium intake. I was havng horrible leg cramps and charie horses,and it turned out I needed to up my magnesium and take prescription strength potassium.

    Thanks for the advice, Grey. Great quote in your signature, BTW. I will keep an eye on that. I take a multi and my wife had me on a magnesium supplement already. I will keep an eye on the potassium too.

    Grey is correct in the fact that cheat meals can throw you out of ketosis, that being said, if you haven't been following any sort of a structured healthy diet, simply lowering your carbs significantly (not necessarily keto) should yield great results for you. Excessive carbs are the devil IMO.

    When I first started the keto diet, I was actually seeing a nutritionist. She expected that I would be missing sweets, but I was having vivid dreams of huge crisp chunks of salt. My sodium levels were bottoming out, so she encouraged me to use celtic salt (it has trace minerals, like himalayan salt) on my food. As I was drinking a quart of water for every 12 ounces of coffee, I guess I was washing it all out of my system. Crazy!
