Condolences, prayers. We all need to remember this lesson, and ensure we are stewards of firearm safety to all those around us, especially new shooters.

I'd have some questions if that is in fact what they found.

I know we want it to be highly unlikely, but most of the people I know that have committed suicide were not the ones you would expect.

Usually, the ones that you would think are likely to do it, have folks reach out and try to help. It doesn't always help, but it's kept the "likely candidates" from following through more times than not.

I've known people that have a publicly happy life, with a great family, that have been the ones to follow through.

The hardest one for me to comprehend was a 17yo son of a good friend. He had a great family, with parents who loved him dearly, younger siblings that looked up to him, he was a popular athlete at school, had a wonderful girlfriend, he was active in the church youth group, and on and on and on... Whatever darkness inside of him drove him to shoot himself, no one saw it in him.

I sincerely hope that your friend didn't commit suicide, and that it was an accident. For her family's sake, and yours as her friend.

I know this had to be hard to share. I am grateful that you did. I have instilled firearm safety in both my sons and everyone I know who I have personally instructed. I am very blessed to have never experienced an "accident" with a firearm and I solely contribute that to my overwhelming respect for them. This is a tragic loss and I send my sincere condolences to the family. Tell your loved ones that you love them - every. single. day.

The slide locked back without an empty mag in the gun?

That's what I was thinking when I said I'd have some questions.
