Not the best of examples but both likely saw military used during the Civil War. While the Remington is generally thought to be the better pistol Colt won the contract to supply the North with pistols. The Colt factory suffered substantial fire damage during the war and couldn't deliver on the contract so Remington took over the contract for a year or so. This colt was made in 1861 (top) and the Remington was make in 1863 or 64. A nice add to my military collection!

Both pistols are black powder. Both load from the front of the cylinder while the cylinders are in the pistol using a .44 caliber ball. Colt did not offer interchangeable cylinders as the removal of the cylinder is awkward. The Remington could accommodate extra cylinders and these could be loaded in advance and quickly changed out, however the thinking at the time was why would that be needed? Six shots was such an improvement over the single shot pistols that were generally used prior to these designs that it was deemed unnecessary. Of the tens of thousands of Remingtons the US government purchased none were shipped with an extra cylinder. Within 5 years of the end of the civil war Remington began offering a model of this pistol that used a cartridge almost identical to the ammo we used today. Colt offered the SAA in 1873 using modern cartridges and again won the US Military contract.

The belt is pretty quiet, you hear the electric motor hum the most. Wifi enabled garage door seems dumb, until you forget to close it... and then you can check on it via your smart phone.

Sooooo close to under the $320 goal for it but the rear sight and sling pushed it over. Need to swap on my M500 handguards and find a good late 90s early 2000s woodland scheme for it.
