They are tiny computers with a wireless chip and network stack, can be programmed as ardunios.
More plainly, you can connect them with a USB cable to a PC, make some code in a program called ardunio IDE, and use them to control other hardware. In my case, christmas lights, or heating/cooling relays, lights, or truly unique inventions.
And I have been partially corrected, but the are only 54* dimes a dozen
I wish I had more budget free to upgrade my infrastructure. I'm still on some pretty old *cough 10+ year*, albet software-upgraded routers. I have so many wish lists it's getting expensive. (fiber optic HDMI for one, Cat 7, shielded patch panels, etc.). I'm ever so slightly tempted to wait and put in a fiber backbone.
