He is referring to Robert Moses, a Long Island, NY road designer.

Supposedly, Moses made the bridges low to discourage summer traffic to Jones Beach by trucks and busses. One of his associates claimed it was because of his hatred for the negroes. This claim hasn't been proved or disproved.

Not sure about that, as there were many times we hopped a bus to jones beach, either to hang out. Or work at the amphitheater But it's been almost 50 years sine i was down there.

The SSP is a NON commercial parkway. meaning (for the unknowing) NO COMMERCIAL VEHICLES. Has been, and always will be.

An interesting tidbit. for those not familiar with the RACIST! SSP. One of the reasons it was built, for NON commercial vehicles was to................ Reduce traffic on multi use roadways. Such as Sunrise hwy. That took one to, the roads that goes to the beach.

Now an interesting fact is.. Most , if not all of us (at the time) city folk. No matter the color of their skin. Went to Coney Island, the Rockaways, or the jersey (elitist) shore.

OR we hung out on tar beach.
